how to store pdf on ibooks without always having to redownload it from icloud

Every time i download my pdfs to ibooks to use without internet at some time later on, i find myself having to redownload the books from the cloud storage. It is happening too often, i would just like for my books to be stored on my devices memory because i don’t always have internet to keep redownloading them and i need them when i’m on the go.

You can store your PDFs in iBooks by using the Export or Share function in iCloud Drive, DropBox, or Adobe Acrobat. View the file in one of these apps and do the following:

  • iCloud Drive: Click the file in the list, click the Share icon (square box with up-arrow) in the upper right, choose "Import with iBooks". (make sure you have iBooks turned on in the iCloud Drive Settings on your mobile device)
  • DropBox: Click the file in the list, click the "three dot" menu in the upper right, choose Export, choose "Open in...", choose "Import with iBooks"
  • Acrobat: Open the file to view, tap to bring up menus at top and bottom. Choose the Share icon (square box with up-arrow) at the bottom, choose "Open in...", choose "Import with iBooks"

After the PDF shows up in your iBooks library, you may safely delete it from iCloud or DropBox if you wish--it is now stored in iBooks on your device.

NOTE: I did NOT turn on iCloud inside iBooks because it will immediately start uploading everything it can to the iCloud, which for me would have run out of storage since I have over 500 PDFs. This was done with my iPad running 10.2.1, I have not updated to 11.0.2 yet.

AFAIK, the fact that iBooks tends to delete books from local on-device storage is a bug. Normally, it should do this only if you’re running out of storage, but there are other users reporting this functionality as overly aggressive and deleting way too much. Please report to Apple.

The more people report the bug, the better chances of Apple addressing it.

Unfortunately I did the mistake of turning on iCloud inside iBooks and now I find that the entire 5GB is close to being finished.

  • Is there any way I can download the books from iCloud so that in case I switch off the setting at the device ,the books are not lost ?
  • If I delete books from the iCloud iBooks , will they also get deleted from the physical device where they have been already downloaded ?

Rysz this is true. I've been suffering with this since iOS 11 came out (it only happens with books not bought on iTunes and pdf's).

It's even more annoying when I try to download them again over cellular and they get stuck and greyed out and fails to download. I realised however, that it started to happen when my iPhone had less than 10Gb of storage left, but 10Gb of storage is too much for iBooks to start deleting local-stored files in order to free up more, and needing 10 Gb or more of storage in order to have my books on my phone is a waste of space.

They should totally fix this.

If anyone else is having the same issue please report it to Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/
