not all of my iTunes music library is showing on my new apple tv 4k

I recently purchased and setup an Apple TV 4k.

I entered my iCloud and iTunes ids and passwords into the system and I am able to purchase and download apps.

However, not all of my iTunes library on my MacBook pro is showing up on my apple TV. At best a third of my albums are showing up. This is my first apple tv, all music purchases were perviously done on my MacBook pro.

What can I do to make everything in my MacBook pro library show up on my apple tv?

Apple TV 4K, iOS 11

SOLVED - As crazy as it seems, the music/playlists are not found in the itunes app on AppleTV. You need to open the COMPUTER APP icon and sign into your itunes account. There you will find ALL your playlists under music (no need to make compilations or any other suggestions mentioned in previous posts - although if you did create them, you'll also see those under MUSIC as well.) All your MUSIC VIDEOS & HOME VIDEOS you have attached to your itunes account will show there. Attached a screen shot of the orange COMPUTER app to help you find it. Not intuitive... but they are all there. Hope this helps!

Yes, that has been my solution for the time being too... still no word back from the Apple engineers.

-I have unchecked "Compilation" on each of the albums that were not appearing on the Apple TV 4K, which "fixes" the issue.

-I have tagged the "album artist" for each of these albums as "Various Artists"... with the "artist" tag for each one of the songs on these albums still tagged with the name of the artist actually performing the song. In this way, the albums still appear as compilations of songs by different artists, but are simply sorted under the artist name "Various Artists" when viewing the iTunes library alphabetically by artist.

-For albums that mostly feature one artist with only 1 or 2 songs by a guest artist, I tag the main artist as the "album artist" and provide complete details in the "artist" field for individual songs (for example, a film soundtrack by a composer would have the composer's name as the "album artist" and a vocalist who sings the main theme to the film would be tagged as the "artist" for that particular track).

With everything tagged this way, I actually don't really see any use for the "Compilation" checkbox... although this may not be the case for other users... and Apple still needs to address the issue.

I've had a few calls from Apple over the past couple of days... they are still looking into my issue. However, I seem to have stumbled upon a solution to the problem late today. In my case, it seems that if the "Album is a compilation of songs by various artists" box is checked in an album's tags, the album won't show up on the Apple TV 4K (this was not a problem on my old 2nd generation Apple TV). Others experiencing the problem may want to check to see if this is the situation in your case. I will discuss this with Apple when I hear back from them, as it appears to be an issue with the Apple TV 4K rather than a problem with the iTunes library.

I may have found a solution: go into your iTunes library on your Mac and select several of your albums that have the "Compilation" check box checked. De-select the checkbox. It doesn't seem to affect the way iTunes understands those albums as compilations, but they suddenly appear on Apple TV 4K. Just tested it myself. If you don't encounter a problem, do the same thing to the rest.

It's a bug, but until they track it down unchecking the compilation box seems to do the trick.

Similar issue... and I currently have a case open with Apple... it has been escalated up to their engineers and I'm now waiting to hear back.

My Apple TV 4K also cannot see the entirety of my iTunes library. Everything is set up as it should be (home sharing etc.), as confirmed on more than one occasion with an Apple tech rep. I do not use Apple music... all I am trying to access is my personal iTunes library on my Mac (all music I have ripped myself from CD or vinyl, meticulously tagged).

Some of the issues include: selecting an artist and getting a message that says "there is no music by this artist in the iTunes library" (when, in fact, there is); selecting an artist and seeing only a portion of the albums by that artist in the library; selecting a genre and seeing only about a third of the albums in that genre.

The workaround for the time being is to play music via Airplay (either directly from the desktop Mac or by using the Remote app on my iPhone, which correctly displays the entire library).

Interestingly, I hooked up my older 2nd generation Apple TV and it has no problem accessing, displaying, and playing the entire contents on my library. (Apple has told me that is to be expected, as the 2nd generation and 4K Apple TVs access the iTunes library in different ways).

I will post an update when I hear back from Apple...

That is strange, Soysauce007... as most all of the over 2,000 albums I have in iTunes were ripped from CD or vinyl (I've only ever purchased a few individual songs from the iTunes store). Unchecking the "compilation" box makes everything show up for me on the Apple TV 4K.

The only remaining annoyance I have involves artists for whom I have more than one album... the albums show up in alphabetical order in iTunes but appear in seemingly random order on the Apple TV 4K. That's something else I need to figure out...

Jan 29, 2018 3:52 PM in response to geowharton

@geowharton, I've had an occasional problem where the Apple TV4K would show the artists in my library but also display the message that there are no songs by certain artists (when in fact there are!).

There was a software update this week but things are still buggy... seems to be a problem with Home Sharing, frequently losing its connection to the library, displaying the "no songs by this artist" message, trouble when trying to play videos in my library (loading and playing the video only part-way before jamming up and showing a spinning gear), etc. This seems to be related specifically to Home Sharing, as streaming videos (from iTunes, Netflix, YouTube) play fine, as does content sent by Airplay.

I am dealing with the same issue, only showing my "Purchased" music on home sharing with Apple TV 4K and I am not a member of Apple Music. If it was imported by CD, doesn't appear. Have headless MacMini with drives in entertainment system wired to Airport Extreme which then wired to Apple TV 4K. Able to see entire library on Apple TV Gen2, which I had to replace due to lack of upgrades. So it is a Apple TV 4K issue, not feed or human.

Feb 11, 2018 6:52 PM in response to mxnews

Same similar issue here. Frequently, and I mean at least in a daily basis, my Apple TV 4K keeps resetting my iTunes purchased movies to 25. And I have at least 416 movies in my library. Yes that's over 400 movies I've purchased over the past decade....

My solution has been to simply restart the Apple TV. And my entire library reappears. Nothing else works.

I'm a long time Apple supporter and customer and am becoming increasingly frustrated at this glitch as well as many others...

Mar 15, 2018 7:04 PM in response to John in Montreal2

I am experiencing this issue as well. My 3rd gen AppleTV's do not have the problem. My 4th gen AppleTV's do not show many of my albums that have the "compilation" box checked in iTunes. I've tested this on a few albums, but I am not going to go thru them all and change them. I expected Apple to fix the problem months ago, but another AppleTV update has dropped and the problem remains. All I can do is hope that Apple engineering is really trying to fix this and is not distracted with other things.

This is not helpful. Even after doing this, only a minority of the music in my iCloud library shows up on my Apple TV. It excludes most of my music, including music I am sure is in Apple music (songs I should at least be able to stream). Why is it that the Music app on Apple TV 4K is configured to only show a little bit of your music? This is a bug, not a feature.
