not all of my iTunes music library is showing on my new apple tv 4k

I recently purchased and setup an Apple TV 4k.

I entered my iCloud and iTunes ids and passwords into the system and I am able to purchase and download apps.

However, not all of my iTunes library on my MacBook pro is showing up on my apple TV. At best a third of my albums are showing up. This is my first apple tv, all music purchases were perviously done on my MacBook pro.

What can I do to make everything in my MacBook pro library show up on my apple tv?

Apple TV 4K, iOS 11

SOLVED - As crazy as it seems, the music/playlists are not found in the itunes app on AppleTV. You need to open the COMPUTER APP icon and sign into your itunes account. There you will find ALL your playlists under music (no need to make compilations or any other suggestions mentioned in previous posts - although if you did create them, you'll also see those under MUSIC as well.) All your MUSIC VIDEOS & HOME VIDEOS you have attached to your itunes account will show there. Attached a screen shot of the orange COMPUTER app to help you find it. Not intuitive... but they are all there. Hope this helps!

Thanks John in Montreal2 for your super useful posts on this issue. I acted on the "compilation" checkbox solution, which worked for some things, however I still find that only a third of my collection is appearing in Apple TV 4K. None of my hundreds of CDs I saved into iTunes, or music from non-iTunes sources that I had saved in iTunes, appears in Apple TV. Suggests it is not just a "compilation" checkbox matter. I've just checked my movies/TV shows - its the same story there - movies/TV shows that I didn't purchase from iTunes do not appear.

I got similar problems with my new 4k Appletv playing my Itunes music; doing all kind of strange things with shuffle play, e.g. showing a whole range of artwork and then stop playing, or not showing any artwork at all.... in fact sometimes it would freeze and I had to restart it... Also just skipping to the next song was impossible, the appletv would just think for a while and then play something unexpected...
I got so fed up with this product that I sold it and got an old Appletv 3rd gen, 2nd hand, that works flawless...

Shame on the Apple crew to launch such a bad product!!!

Yup... it's buggy overall. The "compilation" problem was not the first nor the last I've experienced with the device. I initially had problems connecting through a receiver (which is confirmed to accept a 4K signal... had to go directly to the TV as a workaround). The device also seems to have an issue staying connected or accessing the iTunes library on occasion... It often needs a restart before being able to access the library through home sharing, will sometimes stop playing a song while still showing it as playing, etc. Very buggy.
I saw that a software update is in the works and should be out soon... hope it addresses several of the issues.

Well I bought Apple TV 4K as a single place to access all of my music and films as I was fed up of having them all over the place.

This bug has really been irritating to say the least and I've now moved back to Google Music. Everything works as it should and I won't be going back to Apple Music at all. I bought a Chromecast Ultra and will use this to stream music from now on.

I must applaud Apple's support for trying to resolve the matter but I am too impatient to wait for a resolution to be made available.

This is infuriating. I can’t believe how many hours I’ve spent on this problem but I’m glad I ran across this thread. By the way, this is not specific to the 4K apple tv. I have the 4th gen (non 4K) with this problem. The library works great on my 2nd gen model. Another frustrating quirk is that the albums do display and play fine under music—>compilations but not in music—>albums. If I search for the albums they show up fine but do not play. I get a spinning wheel. I can also say with some certainty that this didn’t used to be the case as I recall playing these albums several months or so ago. So perhaps it was a tvOS upgrade. Annoying.

I feel your pain with this. FWIW I moved to Google Music and it works flawlessly. I can use a Google Chrome web browser or Google Music Manager to upload my albums and tracks. I can play music via any web browser so no clunky itunes. Also once an album uploads it appears straight away in the Google Music app on all of my devices and I can either AirPlay or Chromecast in order to stream. I truly wish that Apple had sorted this earlier as I wanted all of my media to be accessed under one system. However I am extremely happy with Google Music.

Good afternoon mxnews,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
Congratulations on the purchase of your Apple TV 4K! It sounds like you have entered your Apple ID and iCloud information to access services. To access all of the music on your MacBook Pro, you will need to set up Home Sharing. Take a look at the information from the Apple TV 4K User Guide:
Apple TV User Guide - Stream content using Home Sharing

Stream content using Home Sharing

You can stream music, movies, TV shows, photos, and other iTunes content from a computer or iOS device to your Apple TV. Both the device and Apple TV must be configured to use the same iTunes account.

Configure a computer. In iTunes, go to File > Home Sharing and choose Turn on Home Sharing. Enter your Apple ID and password, then click Turn on Home Sharing.

Note: In Windows 7 and Windows 8, iTunes menus are hidden by default. To show them temporarily, press the Alt key.

Configure an iOS device. In Settings on the device, go to Videos or Music. Turn on Home Sharing, then enter your Apple ID and password.

Configure Apple TV. In Settings User uploaded file, go to Accounts > Home Sharing. Turn on Home Sharing, then enter your Apple ID and password.

Stream content on Apple TV. Once you’ve configured all your devices using the same Apple ID, highlight Computers User uploaded file on the Apple TV Home screen and press the Touch surface. Libraries from your shared devices appear, and you can view or play content from any library.

Use Control Center on your iOS device

You can activate and use Apple TV controls in Control Center on an iOS device with iOS 11 or later.

Add Apple TV controls to Control Center. On the iOS device, go to Settings > Control Center, then tap Customize Controls. Tap the Add button User uploaded file next to Apple TV in the More Controls list to add it to Control Center.

Open Apple TV controls in Control Center. On your iOS device, swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen, then tap the Apple TV icon User uploaded file.

The controls in Control Center function the same as in the Apple TV Remote app. For more information, see Navigate with the Apple TV Remote app.

Take care.

I had the same problem on my 3rd generation apple TV. Thanks, this compilation issue is the solution, though it's a pretty poor state of affairs when the 3rd and 4th generation don't work as well as the 2nd!. I have notice that my 3rd generation apple TV won't play a lot of video formats that my 2nd generation Apple TV will. I've had to replace my 3rd gen Apple TV in my main TV room, with the 2nd gen I had in a bedroom because the 2nd gen is far more flexible and adaptable to formats. The compilation album not showing is another cross for apple here.
