Is there a way to count steps in Apple Watch as in other activity trackers?

I like my Apple Watch but have to admit that I don't think I'm taking full advantage of its functionality - I wish Apple provided a series of video tutorials on different functions.

Before I had my watch I used a Jawbone activity tracker and got used to measuring my activity by steps. Is there a way to do this in the Apple Watch?

What are the other best fitness features of the watch and how do you use them?

Hi

Once it has been set up, the Activity app tracks your steps automatically in the background, both during general daily wear and during workouts:

Use the Activity app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

It is not possible to change any of the Activity app goal rings to reflect steps taken or to show steps on the watch face via any other built-in complication. The Activity app also does not include a daily steps goal or allow one to be set.

Your daily steps total can be viewed:

  • Via the Activity app on your watch:

    Open the app and scroll to the bottom of the screen.

  • Via the Activity app on your iPhone:

    Select to view a day's results, then scroll to the bottom to see Steps and Distance.

  • Via the Health app on your iPhone:

If you would prefer to keep track of your steps on the watch face, then you can add a complication using a third-party app:

Change the watch face on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Apps that you may wish to consider include, for example:

Pedometer++
