iOS 11 screen rotation issue on iPhone 7 Plus

After installing iOS 11 including 11.0.2, while waking up the iPhone 7 Plus from sleep mode, the phone wakes up in landscape orientation and does not rotate or auto-rotate come what may. It is only after multiple presses on home button or turning the phone randomly multiple times, it rotates to portrait screen.

This is too annoying and frustrating, that even after two updates, the issue remains as it is.

I posted about this last week and reported it to Apple. This has been happening since the first beta releases of iOS 11 that I used. To prevent it from waking in Landscape mode, "put it to sleep" with the side button while your phone is upright and in Portrait mode. If it goes to sleep in Landscape mode, it will wake in Landscape mode. Very frustrating.

Yep. Easily replicated fault. (The following relates to iPhone 6s with the rotation lock off. Occurred so far in iOS 11 releases)

Open, say, safari, rotate to landscape (home button on left) and press side button to send phone to sleep. Wake up will be last landscape orientation.

Do same test with landscape the other way (home on right) send it to sleep and when woken it will be the other landscape orientation.

Other permutations - probably app based - allow it to even wake up upside down.

Oh, and when showing all this to apple support - apparently my phone is the issue and must be rebuilt to fix it. ......with a 45gig cloud storage that I have to buy. A backup to iTunes according to them will keep the fault upon restore.

Hello,

I have an iPhone 6 and I’m having this problem aswell. I think it has something to do with the new iOS 11 thinking my phone is an iPad or a large screen format iPhone like the 8 plus, but I’m not sure. It just orientates randomly and sometimes gets stuck like that until I have pressed the lock button 3-4 times in portrait mode. I hope apple see all the Me Too upvotes for this problem. Nothing about it in the new update either. If this site does what it sais, this should be addressed soon.

Thank You

It may have been put to sleep in landscape mode, and possibly with rotation lock on, you can turn it off in the control center.
