My map area turns light blue when I click on a device signed in on my account.

The light blue circle shows accuracy of the location shown, meaning that your actual location could be anywhere within that circle.

The more accurate the location, the smaller the circle. If you’re indoors, or your phone otherwise has no access to multiple GOS satellite signals, location accuracy is lower, ie, the circle is bigger.

It’s not a circle, it is the map area in hybrid or satillite mode. The far left choice looks ok.
