IPad IOS 11 Photogene App

Since updating to IOS 11 I can no longer use my Photogene App. I get a message to contact Photogene but the link in broken. I then went directly to Photogene support and sent them a enquiry as to when they will be coming out with an update to their App but they do not respond and have followed you numerous times. I have used Photogene to edit thousands of camera roll photos before exporting to photo library. I also had several photos in progress. I really like this app and would like to know if and when this app will be coming back on stream with Apple.

This is a choice made by the developer of the app, Apple has no control over this and none of us here are employees by Apple, we are all users like yourself that take our free time to try to help people solve problems that they may have. You find out at the same time we do when things are going to happen. IOS 11 runs 64 bit apps only so any app that is 32 bit will not run on your device that is running iOS 11. Not receiving a response from the developer sounds like they may have abandoned it and may not update it.

With the introduction of iOS 11, ALL support for older 32 bit iDevices and any older iOS 32 bit apps has ended.

The last update of Photogene was nearly 3 years, ago.

I am a Photogene user, too, and I am still using iOS 10 as I still have quite a few dozen apps, Photogene is one of these, that I am holding out hope for updates from many lone developers.

So far, some of these, once thought “orphaned” apps got an iOS 11 update, but still many have NOT, as yet.

So, I sm waiting it out!

Look,

Apple can't be responsible nor take any responsibility or make assurances about any developer‘s software.

Some app developers simply give up on any further app development because of lots of reasons.

Reasons like the just give up and no longer want to keep supporting an app ( for lone developers maintaining an app is a lot of work! Maybe stop updates due to disinterest or boredom).

There was limited interest in the app/s and/or the developers haven't made enough money to keep maintaining or improving their apps for each iOS release.

The developers' companies have financial trouble, go bankrupt and close up shop and end development of an app.

For a lone developer, maybe the developer became seriously ill or has died. Either way, the app has stopped being updated.

Apple cannot be responsible for ANY THING that happens with developers and the apps they develop or continue or fail to continue to develope.

It's NOT Apple's responsibilty, at all.

NONE!

Once again,

NOT APPLE’S FAULT OR RESPONSIBILITY!!!

Apple does NOT control third party developers!

Third party developers had plenty of notice (nearly two years) to update their software and to make it 64 bit compatible, in anticipation of the future release of iOS 11.

It doesn’t take that long to recompile code from 32-bit code to all 64-bit code.

If, for whatever reason, the developer stopped development/stopped updating their app, it is because they no longer wish to keep moving forward with developing an app, any longer.

FYI,

Photogene has NOT had ANY iOS updates in 3, count ‘em, 3 years!

So, I think it’s safe to assume the developer of Photogene has abandoned the app!

That stated you could try contacting and sending an email to the developer of Photogene here to express your concerns and issues.

Their website appears to still be active.

Good Luck with That!!!

I have this exact same problem. Beyond annoying and I’m frankly rather fed up of the innumerable software updates from Apple. Particularly annoying when they render one of my favourite Apps obsolete. Did you find any passable alternative?

So they should not do any updates to make things work better in fear that the apps won’t work? It’s not Apple’s responsibility to worry about if the apps are going to work when an update is done. Much like with any device that you own, when an update goes out to make that device work better, something that is written by a 3rd party may not work. It’s up to them to make sure that they keep it current to be able to work with the new software. I appreciate that Apple stays on top of things and does updates to correct issues that are found with the software that is out, and looks for ways to make the software more capable of doing things more efficiently and become much more useful.

The app developer is the one not keeping things up to date and they were given ample warning to update the apps to be compatible with the 64 bit platform that now exists. You also were given warnings on any apps that would not be compatible with this version of iOS. Try getting in touch with the developer and see if there is maybe a way to get them to support it again, but I doubt it as it has been a while since they have done any updates to their software or supported it. I’m sure there are other apps out there that do what your looking for, some most likely even more powerful. I know it’s not always the greatest thing to learn how to do the stuff that you did before all over again in a different way, but it’s probably a better thing because you’ll now get a more current app, and one that is still being supported by the developer.

I would sure like to know how you think Apple has anything to do with this. Apple only gets paid because they have the system in place to put the charges through and to make sure that the App developer gets paid. They have no other control over the app in any way. The developer is the one that writes the code for the app that you have on your phone, if Apple had any input in that, then Apple would be the ones in charge of the app and they don’t have that ability. It is completely up to the developer to continue to support the app.

You did get warnings, I had the app and I got plenty of warnings, as with all of my other 32bit applications. When they would start, there was a pop up that would appear telling you that this app will not work in iOS 11, please contact the developer if you wish to continue using this app. On top of that, Apple also notified the developers that the apps would no longer be supported if they weren’t given 64 but support. So in that sense, Apple did what hey should have in letting the developers know and giving them ample time to get prepared for the change to 64 bit. It isn’t their responsibility to modify the code, nor can they legally, to make the apps work. I can understand how frustrating it is to have paid for an app to only have it rendered useless now as it doesn’t work, but as you are not receiving any response from the developer only leaves me to believe that the developer just doesn’t care and is not supporting nor do they intend to support the app any further. Legally, Apple did everything they could do to make sure that it get supported. They can not modify the app in any way as it is not their app to modify. I am really curious as to what you think they could have done more to get your apps working?

Uh,

Really???...

That would be a type of discrimination, don't you think?

In addition, it is not Apple's place to police developers and/or inquire/intervene into developer activities!

Apple lets anyone and everyone be an app developer and to develop apps for iOS.

That is why there are millions of apps for iOS in the iOS App Store.

There are young kids developing apps!

There are older users that develope apps!

It's very hard to create apps and make money or some kind of living from developing and creating an app or series of apps!

You need to get real about this!

You need to accept that not every app in the iOS App Store is going to be a resounding successes and the developers of apps are going to support their software creations forever!

That, realistically, just isn't going to happen.

And it's not up to Apple what happens to an app/s or its developer/s.

App developers pay Apple a hefty percentage to sell their apps in the iOS App Store.

Your “beef” is with the developers of Photogene.

I have/use more than one photo/image editing app just to cover for just this type of contingency/eventuality!

Find alternatives to Photogene to use just in case Photogene never gets an anymore updates!

I, also, use,

Pixelmator

Polarr

Affinity Photo.

Good Luck to you and your search for alternative image editing apps!

If you’re looking for 1-click photo editors, instead of the photo/image editors I recommended, here are a couple you could look at, to start.

I tried to contact Photogene through any and every oriface I could find, sales, service, facebook, and even tried twitter, instagram, and linkedin. I kept following up every day for weeks and no responses. And I did not get any “warnings” that photogene would not be able to work on IOS 11. Only after I updated IOS did I see a notice that Photogene and WiSpi (Drone Controls) would no longer function, which was too late. I am sorry that I have to disagree with you that Apple does not share any responsibilty. Apple gets paid for these Apps to run on their platforms by your own admission. So to me that makes them responsible to ensure they are reputable and capable of supporting their software to apples standard. Anyway I have moved on and still working with several apps to find one that suits. Interestingly enough I have sent enquiries and to couple of them and they never responded. I think that speaks the issue here.
