4K HDR pass through problem

Just received my new 4K Apple TV. Tried to set up with my Yamaha RX-A760 Receiver (which has full HDCP2.2 pass through) to my LG 65EG9500 OLED TV. At setup, when I select 4KHDR I get a message that my TV doesn't support HDR and it reverts to SDR.


I have fully compliant Audio Quest Ocean Cables. My receiver is properly set up with 4K mode 1 pass through.


When I plug directly to my TV...no problem...any help would be appreciated.

Further to my first reply I chatted with Yamaha and that session resolved the issue. Here is a transcription of the key point which is switching the RX-A760 to 4K mode:

First you want to switch the 4k mode on your receiver, here is how you do it

* you will not be using the remote for this*
Turn OFF the receiver
Press and hold the STRAIGHT button on the front panel
While you're holding the straight button power ON the receiver
Use the program <> keys to toggle until you reach 4K mode
Hit straight button to switch from Mode 2 to 4k mode 1
Turn off the receiver
Turn OFF the TV
Un plug the receiver and let it sit for 15 seconds
Plug it back in and turn everything ON

Similar circumstances here except I have a Samsung TV. I was able to update the Samsung software to include HDR+. I reset (by directly connecting as you did). Then restablished the passthrough. Apple TV 4K identified the Samsung HDR capability. The system functioned properly but I then encountered stability issues and lost the pass through. So...one problem resolved and another emerges. Familiar territory.


Apple TV support told me they have been tracking the problem. Any help here much appreciated.

Unfortunately this is still happening, I opened a ticket with Apple support and they are simply denying this bug. I have a Yamaha RX-A3070 and have this exact same problem. I have no issues getting the receiver to passthrough an HDR signal to the TV using other devices except for the Apple TV.


It blows my mind to receive the quality of support I got from a company like Apple, this is simply burying their heads in the sand, there are plenty of similar reports out in the internet, a simple Google would reveal it from all kinds of receivers, Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, etc.


I really wish I never bought this.
