After installing High Sierra, whenever I do a search in mac mail the first two items that show up are "Top Hits". I am used to the latest emails showing up. This is extremely disruptive to my workflow and causes me to make mistakes.
How can I remove the top hits search line from mac mail?
If you are using terminology " Top Hits " in mails if I understood correctly is , open mail preferences - viewing - uncheck the box of show most recents messages at the top .
Open mail app take cursor on top menu bar view > click on hide related messages .
It only appears when you search for an email using the Search bar in Mail
Turning off Spotlight entirely does not make it go away either. Argh!

The 'Top Hits' is also extraordinarily disruptive to my workflow. And it's astounding that Apple didn't include a way to disable this.
This worked. Simply uncheck the "Show the most recent message at the top" under "View Conversations" at the bottom of the "Viewing" in "Preferences" and "Top Hits" goes away...
I tried in my system for sure it was gone by quitting the mail application .

I just replied to a two year old mail thinking it was recent.
I will now stop using Apple mail until this functionality can be turned off.

In Mail Preferences, check "Use Classic Layout." Worked for me.
