Apple Watch Siri not working

I can launch Siri on my watch, but no matter what I say to it, it cannot hear the command or respond to it. It is almost as if the microphone on the watch is muted?

I have an original Apple Watch, updated to WatchOS4.0 (15R372), connected to an iPhone 6S running iOS 11.0.2. Since updating the Apple Watch to WatchOS4, Siri has not worked. I have followed the information in the knowledge base to shut down Siri on the iPhone, then shutdown both watch and phone, restart phone, turn Siri back on and then restart watch. I have also put watch in Airplane Mode and back on. And, I verified that the watch is connected to the phone by checking for the green phone icon on the System Options screen, and I successfully pinged the phone from the watch, too. Siri on my phone is working perfectly.Unfortunately, Siri on the watch says "Sorry, could you say that again?" over and over again.

Is there a known issue with WatchOS4 on an original Apple Watch that I am not finding yet?

Hi

Given the steps that you have already tried, the following further steps may help (check after each):

Remove any protective case or film that you may be using on your Apple Watch if it is blocking the microphone port (the lower of the two ports on the opposite side to the buttons):

Clean your Apple Watch, paying particular attention to the microphone port, in case it has become blocked by debris.

On your iPhone:

  • Go to: Settings > Siri & Search - check that all desired settings are enabled.
  • Go to: Settings > General > Restrictions - check that the restriction for Siri & Dictation is not enabled.
  • Go to: Settings > General > Keyboard - check that Enable Dictation is turned on.

  • On your Apple Watch:

    • When viewing the time on your watch, go to the Home screen by pressing the Digital Crown (round button) once.
    • Go to: Settings (cog icon) > General > Siri > check that Hey Siri is turned on.

If the issue persists, next try unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch:

If the issue then still persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

And the plot thickens. Turns out dictation is no longer working, either. Could it be the watch microphone is not working? It was working before the update. And, when I choose dictation in iMessage on the watch, it shows there is sound (the waves at the bottom of the screen are showing some sound input) but none of my speech is recognized by the watch. That is why I believe it is the watch and OS, not the microphone itself. And, no, the watch has not gotten wet.
