Adding PCI Express Ethernet Card

Hello..

I just bought a mac pro and i am installing a PCI Express Ethernet Card bought from apple.

The PCI Expansion Utilities shows that it recognized a new PCI Card but it said "Unknown Ethernet Controller Card".
I checked under system profiler and it didn't recognized this new piece of hardware.

right now the additional ethernet port isn't useable.

Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks!

You need to add those other ports I believe before they will show up, but they will be listed - click on ADD button in Network cp.

Under Network in System Profiler?

And when you say both cards show as green - how many lanes? and you should be able to change it. Your video card in #4 16x and ethernet in 1 or 2 I'd think. There are something like four configurations possible to choose from.

Okay, I'm jumping out a step because the replies are getting uncomfortably skinny. 🙂

hatter, if by "Network cp" you mean system Preferences -> Network, I do not have an "Add" button anywhere on that control. The other ports DO NOT show up there, not even as unconfigured.

Further, if I go to System Profiler -> Network, the ports don't show up there either (and again, there is no "Add" button).

Finally, I'm still a little perplexed that the PCI-Express card itself does not show up in the System Profiler -> Hardware -> PCI section. Only my video card shows up.

I know that the other card is plugged in properly because running the PCI Lane configuration tool shows the card (and you're right, I have the card in slot 1, which my configuration has as an 8x lane). There are 4 possible configurations, and I have the first one selected. To the right of each lane bar there's a little light that shows yellow for cards that will be performing beneath optimum and green for cards that have enough lanes to perform at or above optimum. Again, both my video card and my "Unknown Ethernet Controller Card" show green.

So the PCI bus knows there's an Ethernet card there, but none of the other system utilities (System Profiler, System Preferences, etc) seem to be able to see it.

Weird? Totally. Frustrating? You have no idea.

Hi,
I have th esame kind of problem with a 4lanes card provided by BlackMagic (video signal input card).
No way to have the PCI-e card recognised in the Expansion Slot Utility or in the Sys profile.
It is in the slot 4 and I use the second pci config.
No way to have it recognised.
I'm searching a way to verify that the 4 pci slots works fine or not (the 1st one is ok, it's the standard videao card ;-))

I'm having a similar issue. I have a new MacPro and just tried to install a Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme via the PCIe slots. I have tried all of the slots and the card doesn't show up in System Profiler (only my pre-installed card does). What's more, I don't even have the PCI Lane configuration tool in my utilities folder. Is this an issue with the Mac Pro expansion slots? Should I return the card?

does the expansion slot utility not see the card at all?
cuz here on my system it shows unknown video card. but the card still works perfectly and running at maximum speed.
if the expansion slot utility is set incorrectly it wll tell you that the card is running below maximum speed.

does 4 lane mean PCIe x4 or x8? cause whem i set the utilty at x4 for that slow it says running below max speed
