Lots of bugs in ios 11.0.3 on iPhone 6s

Hi Apple,

What have you done with ios 11. Even after 3 updates the stability is terrible.

First of all: a lot of apps aren't working right. they keep crashing or the whole ios crashes and i have to do a hard reset. Even the apps that have been updated work insanly bad.

Second: random ios bugs. like wifi crashing the music app or the volume indicator just stops working. the apps in the bottom part of the screen disappear? the list goes on and on and on.

Last: The battery. i mean my device now only has like 60% of the batterylife it had before. you guys really screwed us over with this terrible update...

please fix asap.

Hi

Go to iCloud make sure iCloud back up is on Then backup now over your wifi.

Then go to settings down to reset Restore iPhone back to factory settings

Set back up over your wifi when it asks if you want to use iCloud backup Say yes to get your apps and data back this will get rid of any bugs.

Cheers

I tried everything, deleted all my apps, reset network settings, keyboard and dictionary, privacy, reset homescreen layout. Nothing worked. Something is wrong with the upgrade, it corrupts data or has a major bug that causes the device to reset and go to the lock screen. The battery life goes down by nearly 50%. They need to test things properly before releasing updates, because they are breaking working decices.

Finally I backed up my data and did a factory reset about an hour ago, seems to be fine now (has not gone to the lock screen), but I have no data, no apps really so time will tell. It will take a day or two to see if the battery issue is resolved.

I'm not saying it isn't an issue with iOS 11 and your device, but what I am saying is it isn't universal to all iPhone 6 models (or whatever other device you may have.)

Many here have the opinion that iOS 11 broke all iPhones or iPads but that simply isn't true; literally millions are having few to no issues, so the key in asking you to take your device to the Apple Store is diagnostics they run get sent to Cupertino and perhaps there is some common denominator that will show itself that way - one particular batch of an internal chip is unhappy, or there is some other reason.

For example, when iOS 11 was first released, some users reported the touch screen no longer worked. By analyzing the failure patterns, Apple was able to determine that those having the issue had all had broken screens replaced with third party ones that didn't quite meet the specifications of the Apple originals, and they designed and implemented a fix.

But to say iOS 11 is flat out broken is unfair and an incorrect assertion.

Many of us who have been here for years helping users like yourself with issues know what it looks like when Apple inadvertently breaks something for all owners of a particular device, and the queries here have not reached anywhere near that level.

Why are you carrying water for Apple? You can go on chat with Apple and they can run a diagnostic on your phone hardware in realtime - took me about 10 minutes last night to do that with them. My hardware on my 6S was A-OK so its software according to Apple. All they recommend is backing up my phone and performing a factory reset. My phone worked fine before 11.0.3

So I know for sure the reason my battery only lasts 90 -120 minutes running apps is software. I have to charge many times a day now and it has nothing whatsoever to do with hardware as confirmed by Apple.

What bothers me is the timing and response by Apple. 11.0.3 blew up a lot of 6s's immediately before the release of 2 new products - a skeptical person would say they did this to drive people to the store to buy new phones rather than waste hours on the phone with customer service. Response to my spending hours on the phone with customer service was to have me do a factory reset the night before 11.1 was released. 90 min on the phone before I called it a night at 10pm (without doing the factory reset). Woke up the next morning and updated to 11.1 and most of the major problems were solved.

1) I haven't seen lots of apps crashing but if they are, that needs to be brought to the attention of the app provider, whether Apple or someone else.

2) I've never seen Wi-Fi crash anything, or the volume indicator stop working. If you have elements disappearing from the bottom of your screen you may also have a hardware issue causing problems on your device.

3) Battery - same here. If you are seeing continual battery issues, take your phone in to be diagnosed; the most common cause of excessive battery draw is a third party app that is not compatible with iOS 11 is stuck in a loop, drawing power.

Then you're smart enough to realize that if the OS were truly causing these issues there would be tens of thousands of users out of the millions using iOS 11 complaining of the same issues here - and there are not.

It's too bad those apps are crashing for you, but they're not for literally millions of others.

If you've tried reinstalling iOS 11 already:

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I would suggest taking your phone in to your local Apple Store for diagnosis as there is apparently something unique to your iPhone causing them.

William,

Thanks for the sensible advice and the excellent example of not losing your temper. Of course, I suspect you're setting another good example by not following this thread anymore.

I am not sure why William and Phliiy_Pham keep on posting rude comments when they do not have anything to contribute. Either They don't understand English or people don't write it properly(which I am sure not is the case). almost everyone on the thread are saying they are facing issues post the iOS update. Some people I know have even got their phone replaced and still facing issues. And let me me tell you its not handful of people there are lot many who have not taken it up on social media (Just google "ios 11 issues")

There are always some bugs with major Software releases but instead of blaming consumers, I would be better if Apple confirms these issues and fix them in upcoming iOS 11.1

Here are couple of things that I have tried.

1) iPhone Freeze or Hang issue.

Reset the "Location & Privacy" settings in Settings>General>Reset>Location and Privacy settings. After this only allow permissions to apps which you think is absolutely essential. This has really helped.

2) Battery Life.

Just put you phone in power saver mode even if it is fully charged. Its not as good as iOS 10 battery life but still good.

3) Music App Widget issue / No voice over calls

Only way is to hard reset the device.

4) Phone not charging.

Disconnect your charger and turn off the phone. Once phone completely turned off, plug-in your charger. You might need to do 2-3 attempts.

I have been having the same problems ever since upgrading to 11.0.3. Everything has been a mess on my iPhone 6. I even bought a new iPhone 8 in hopes that a new phone would not have the same problems. As soon as I started the new phone - SAME PROBLEMS!

I have been researching and finally found something that seems to have corrected the issues - maybe it will work for you, too? This will re-format your phone, so make sure you have a backup on iCloud and you will go through the whole set up process. I did this once yesterday and no luck. Tried it again today and it worked! Everything I have tried is working correctly - including overheating phone, no access to iMusic, apps not opening, unable to sync with iTunes, etc. Hope this helps!

I found this on www.appletoolbox.com:

Try a Forced Restart

How-To Perform a Forced Restart on iPhone models

  • On an iPhone 6S or below plus all iPads & iPod Touches, press Home and Power at the same time until you see the Apple logo
  • For iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold both the Side and Volume Down buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo
  • On an iPhone X or iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and promptly release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo

ios11.1 has been an improvement over 11.0.3 (which nearly made my phone unusable). The 11.0.3 was a horrible update and Apple seems to have corrected many of the battery and freezing issues. That said, I spent 90 min on the phone essentially wasting time and preparing to do a factory reset the night before 11.1 was released. The Apple support was going to have me reset the phone and reinstall the 11.0.3 when they knew or should have know the 0.3 update WAS the issue.

After the new update still less battery life but much closer to the old phone I had pre11.0.3 Lots of deletions and modifications of my posts. So much for Apple opensource free speech. Applespeech TM only Zone

What have you done to troubleshoot a problem with your phone? It is with your phone, not with the version. If it was the version it would affect tens of millions of phones (including mine), and it clearly does not. You can wait forever and no release will ever fix it, or you can either troubleshoot it yourself or contact Apple using the contact support link at the top of every page. Either approach will fix your problem, but just waiting will not.
