my heart rate on my apple watch shows wide fluctuations occasionally even if i am sitting down. It jumps from 65 or 70 to 120 or higher and then comes back down. Is this just a normal read with occasional misreads? does anyone else get this?

The heart rate monitor on my apple watch first version has started to show big variations in my resting heart rate. It is generally 65 to 70 but jumps up 120 sometimes or higher (once to 209) when I am sitting down and resting. Are these just misreads or a sign of something else? Do other people get this?

Under watchOS 4.x, elevated heart rate notifications are sent when your Apple Watch detects a heart rate that rises over the specified level (on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Notifications > Heart Rate) whilst you appear to have been inactive for at least 10 minutes.

If you suspect that your Apple Watch may have identified an abnormal or irregular heart rate, then I would again suggest you consult your doctor / physician, perhaps sharing the readings with them.

Resting heart rate information can be viewed via the Health app on your iPhone (Health Data > Heart > Resting Rate).

Whilst Apple Watch is not a medical device (and, even under ideal conditions, may not be able to record a reliable heart rate reading every time for everyone), heart rate readings have proved helpful to other users, including:
