High Sierra Keeps Hanging !!!

I had Sierra, then I downloaded high Sierra 10.13 on October 2017. I did a CLEAN install (not upgrade).

It works, but after using it for about half an hour, opening Safari or other applications, the operating system

hangs.

I can FORCE QUIT the applications, but this does not help. I always have to do a restart. And even a soft restart does not work ! It hangs, I can see the "moving circle" keeps turning without restarting. So I always have to do a hard reset.

Anyone else has this problem ?

Please HELP !!!!

MacBook, macOS High Sierra (10.13)

There have been no previous reports of this kind of behavior with ClamXAV and High Sierra. You should report exactly what you are seeing to the ClamXAV Help Desk.

There is a known conflict that causes an "Error 13" under certain circumstances in ClamXAV that should be fixed by Apple with the release of macOS 10.13.2.

In the mean time, there is a new version of ClamXAV which is currently in testing and your issue might be resolved with that new version.

Go into ClamXAV's preferences -> Advanced, and turn on the option to "Enable beta ClamXAV updates" and click the OK button.

After that, select "Check for ClamXAV updates" from the ClamXAV menu.

When the new version has been installed successfully, go back into preferences and turn off the "beta updates" option.

Thanks all for your inputs

Here is the update:

I left CleanMyMac3 on my MacBook (with High Sierra)

I used it to remove Avast.

Things seems to be fine now. Have not had in the last 24 hours any Freeze/Hanging.

So it appears to be Avast.

By the way, I installed another Anti Virus called Dr. AntiVirus , from the AppStore. It seems to not interfere as was with Avast. Too bad, I would have preferred to have Avast since it seems to be very popular (over 400 million users)

I will report if anything changes in the status ,

Thanks again

But Avast and CleanMyMac3 did not cause any problems with Sierra (10.12).

Here is what they say :

================

Q:

Is CleanMyMac 3 compatible with macOS High Sierra?

A:

Currently, CleanMyMac 3 is fully compatible with the latest macOS High Sierra and you can download it here.

I will try removing Avast and see.

By the way, which other AntiVirus do you recommend that works with Mac OS 10.13 ?

You learned nothing from my reply. Read it again. Having ignored it, your Mac may now be so hopelessly corrupted to the extent that it is likely to require completely erasing it, and rebuilding it from the ground up.

Rule 1 of Macs is don't install junk. Do not use non-Apple "anti-virus" junk, "cleaners", "doctors", "cleansers", "optimizers", "doctor cleaners", "cleaner doctors", or "doctor antivirus cleaners" on a Mac. They are scams.

If you already overlooked Rule 1, Rule 2 is to uninstall those things (credit dialabrain for number 2).

Rule 0 is to create a backup, so that you can recover from the corruption resulting from using garbage products that should never be installed on a Mac. To learn how to use Time Machine please read How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support.

Since you didn't follow my earlier instructions though, I doubt you will follow these either. Good luck.
