Have you checked Settings app, Battery to see what app/s are eating into your battery life so badly?
Also, install this app to test your iPod Touch’s battery health.

Your iPod Touch battery may be failing and may need to be replaced by Apple.

No one knows, but if Apple stays the course with updating the iPod Touch every four years, then the earliest we will see a new iPod Touch 7th generation will be sometime in the summer of 2019.
😉
So, if you need an iPod Touch now, I can attest that the 6th gen iPod Touch is a great iPod Touch.
8 mp camera with LED flash, A8 CPU running at 1.1 Ghz, M8 motion co-processor.
I have the 64 GBs version. Apple has pared the 6th gen iPod Touch to only a 32 or 128 GBs models, now, though.
Only weak link is the 1 GB of RAM, but iOS 10.3.3 (not upgrading to iOS 11 for quite some time) runs well on this iPod Touch.
I still love mine.
Takes great photos/images and stores my entire music library.
Good Luck to You!
There have been many 6th gen iPod Touch users reporting this battery drain issue.
I've had my iPod Touch for over two years now and have NOT experienced this battery problem.
Keep in mind Apple states UP to only 8 hours watching continous video.
Music playback UP to 40 hours! (Proabably with just playing music from the 6th gen iPod Touch's internal library over headphones, NO iPod Touch Speaker, NO Bluetooth speakers OR Wifi streaming of music).
The longest I have ever listened to my music library over headphones (No Wifi or Bluetooth signals), my 6th gen iPod Touch lasted approx. 16 hours ( Two days, two 8 hour sessions approx.)!
I have never gotten anywhere near 40 hours of music playback!!! EVER!!!
Streaming music from Wifi music services to my headphones only, I get between 10-12 hours.
Using a portable Bluetooth speaker, I play my internal music library for approx. between 7-8 hours, or so, hours. It varies some.
If I just use the iPod Touch speaker at full volume to play my internal music library, I get less play time on the battery, for some reason. Only about 5-6 hours!
With Wifi and Bluetooth ON, I constantly pair my Pebble smartwatch to my iPod Touch to do things like a step tracker, iPod Touch remote, get weather info and , in addition, If I just use my iPod Touch for messaging, taking photos/images and for Face Time-ing or updating apps during the course of the day, my iPod Touch gets a solid 12 hours, or so.
Sometimes a little less. Sometimes a little more.
I used to use a seperate sleep tracker/monitor app with my Pebble Watch and iPod Touch, but the constant data gathering when I slept, this sleep monitor app completely drained my iPod Touch overnight. Approx 8-9 hours and I would have to charge my iPod Touch more than twice a day.
So, I don't use the sleep monitor any longer.
I just use a passive sleep monitor that only keeps track the time I sleep ONLY. No movement or sound/audio data.
Saves a lot of iPod Touch battery time.
THAT sleep app drained my iPod Touch's battery BIG TIME!
I don't watch hardly watch any video on my iPod Touch, but less than 8 hours seems realistic.
I do NOT think ANY iPod Touch model will ever get close to 40 hours of continuous music playback!
Too many many usage variables.
IF you play heavy resource style games on your 6th gen iPod Touch, I would definitely expect less time on the iPod Touch 6 battery for sure!!
I would expect average battery life of the 6th gen iPod Touch with average use to realistically be between 8-12 hours.
Most days, I easily get close to 10 hours of use of my iPod Touch on its battery.
Seems pretty good battery life for an iDevice to me.
I only get between 7-8 hours from my battery constantly using my large iPad Pro!
Charged up my iPod Touch 6 yesterday at 6pm. Using it with my Pebble watch, took some photos and listening to music via headphones and updated some apps, so far, I’ve managed 16 hours and I still have some battery time/life left.
So, today, I’ll be getting closer to 20 hours.
Usage on my iPod Touch 6 CAN vary widely from day to day.
Apple will never announce new product in advance, publicly or privately.
It's nearly November, so I would NOT hold out hope or your breath that Apple in going to release any more new products for this year!
Sorry.
My battery life is dismal at best, if I make it to 2 hours I feel very very lucky! and I do try to limit things like brightness, bluetooth is off, and anything else that can cause rapid battery drain but no luck.
I agree the camera really works great, so my aim for a new one is mainly for the battery life, as I can't find someone to replace this one that I would trust with my ipod touch and for a possible even better camera.
IF anyone knows a solid person/company that can replace this battery for me, that would be great, it's been this way since the beginning but I did not know it was something unique to mine or I would have exchanged it right away :-(

Apple will NEVER announce ANY new products in advance!
And if Apple history continues, we won’t see a new iPod Touch until mid to late 2019!
So, IF Apple does another generation of iPod Touch, you may have a year and a half, or so, to wait.
No one knows, but Apple and day ain’t tellin’!
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?
Have you tried turning OFF Background App Refresh?
Turn ON Reduce motion?
Limit the amount of background apps just sitting in the iOS App Switcher?
Do you have scads and scads of active website tabs in the whatever iOS Web browser you use?
In Settings, General, Reset, try Resetting All Settings?
Really???...
You are not addressing anyone of importance from Apple.

What saux so much about the 6th gen iPod Touch?
I have had mine for over two years, now, and I still love mine!
This 6th gen iPod Touch is the closest Apple hss ever made an iPod Touch to an actual iPhone. In this case the iPhone 6.
What is soooo wrong with your 6th gen iPod Touch?
If Apple stays to trend, a new iPod won't’ t surface until sometime mid 2019 OR even early 2020 may or may not introduce a new iPod Touch.
No one knows, but Apple.
For me, it is not a matter of whether or not the 6th gen Touch "saux" or not. It was pretty easy to figure out a long time ago about Apple's tactic of continually upgrading IOS so older devices can't use it, thus railroading people into buying new devices. This is one reason why I decided early on to skip generations before purchasing a new device, especially when the old one still works just fine. For me, the iPod Touch is so much more that just a so-called "media player". It is a highly pocketable COMPUTER that is invaluable to have handy for many different purposes. I enjoy shopping the app store to find practical useful apps to extend the Touch's capabilities. The time is drawing near to upgrade my 5th gen iPod Touch, and I am NOT going to purchase a 6th gen. I would like to purchase a 7th gen so I can be sure it will be able to run latest versions of IOS for at least the next several years and support future apps that will require it. I have been pretty happy with my 5th gen, but if Apple doesn't stop messing around and come out with the 7th gen, I may start looking at alternatives. A little research shows that many of the apps I love having on my Touch are also available for Android devices, and there is no shortage of new inexpensive choices out there. I really do not want to jump ship though, so PLEASE APPLE LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS AND DO NOT BE ARROGANT, OR IT WILL COST YOU FUTURE SALES!
PS: And I would be very surprised if there were not moderators or at least someone from Apple who does not peruse these threads periodically.
Thanks. I have the 6th gen but doesn't seem like the battery last that long. Sometimes it does but other times it seems to drain fast.
Current iPod Touch being sold by Apple is the 6th Generation.
Apple has said nothing about a 7th so no one outside of Apple would know when or if they plan to release one.
No one knows, but if Apple stays the course with updating the iPod Touch every four years, then the earliest we will see a new iPod Touch 7th generation will be sometime in the summer of 2019.
😉
Hope they come out with new iPod Touch soon anytime u call Apple to ask they say they have no information which is a bunch of BS
