I've never seen the vm folder before but it appeared after updating to High Sierra today. Should it be visible? MacBook Pro 13, late 2010.

It happens sometimes.
Where does it appear.
It should be in /private/var/, so it would be odd that it shows up somewhere visible in Finder.
Do you run any virtualization apps? Parallels comes to mind.
I did delete it from the root directory (I didn't delete anything from anywhere else), and everything's running smoothly.
Click on finder , Go > Go to folder .
Type /Volumes/ and click on Go .
Again click on vm
I thought I had read that, but looking back at your post, I didn't see it. Forgot to look at Title .
If it is at the root, I would suspect it isn't the real vm file, but I'm not sure.
Also not sure what to do.
I would imagine deleting it, then immediate restart, but that's just a guess.
It's in the root directory (same one as Applications, System, Users, etc.).
I should have mentioned that there’s a one-gig swapfile In it. I was tempted to delete, but seemed potentially a bad idea if it’s a system file.
Not that I know of. Definitely not Parallels.

I don't think it's normal for it to appear in the root directory.
I have the exact same issue. Just upgraded yesterday from 10.11. So you deleted visible vm folder and its swapfile0 from your root directory? Since it has been a couple of weeks, have you noticed any adverse effect? Thanks.
Its normal when Mac OS High Sierra was installed , was confused and deleted it , after few days supplemental update was there by updating the vm folder again reappeared , then consulted in apple support , said its normal .
Click on finder , Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > vm
It is a normal folder in Mac OS High Sierra 10.13 don't delete it .
I looked in /var, and a swapfile with the same number existed in there, with a later modification time. I deleted the one at the root level, which had not been modified since it appeared. I wonder if it had something with High Sierra freezing a few times during installation/bootup.
I have the VM folder and in it is a swap file which is from Hex Fiend.
