How do I advance to the next photo while viewing a photo?

One of the things that is really frustrating me about my new MacBook Pro is when I stick a micro SD card in, I see it appear on the desktop, I double click and see all my images. I double click a image and I see the image, the only way I can advance to the next image is to close the open image and double click the next image.

Coming from a PC usually you can just hit the spacebar to advance to the next image or the arrow forward key, having to close the open image and double click every time is time consuming and frustrating, am I doing something wrong?
