My XP computer doesn't see the photos on my iPhone

Itunes says there are 2500 photos on my iPhone but my XP computer says there are none there and won't copy them.

iPhone 6, iOS 11.0.3, Windows XP

If I'm understanding your post right, you're having some difficulties moving photos from your iPhone to your PC running Windows XP. I understand how important it is to be able to move data to and from your iPhone to your computer without running into issues doing so. I'm happy to help you with a solution.

It looks like you may be having problems importing photos due to software compatibility. In order to import photos from your iPhone to your PC, you would need to be running iTunes 12.5.1 or later, and in order to download iTunes 12.5.1, your PC would need to be updated to Windows 7 or later. If you decide to update your Windows software and iTunes version, you can import your photos using the steps in Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch , specifically this section:

Import to your PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using Windows Photo Gallery:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  2. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your PC with a USB cable.
  3. You might need to unlock your iOS device using your passcode.
  4. You might also see a prompt on the iOS device asking you to Trust This Computer. Tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, follow the steps in these Microsoft knowledge base articles to learn how to import photos to Windows Photo Gallery:

When you import videos from your iOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in Windows Photo Gallery. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

Photos and videos that you sync from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes can't be imported back to your computer.

Learn what to do if you can‘t import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.


If upgrading your Windows version is not an option, you can import your photos to another computer if you have one available that meets the system requirements. In addition, if you have iCloud Photo Library enabled on your iPhone, you can go to https://www.icloud.com to view your entire photo library and choose photos to import from the Photos app there.
