on older flip phones not receiving messages properly
Flip phones and slide phones just receive my texts as little boxes. They cannot read my texts

I don’t know anyone with such phones to test it, so just try it.
Settings > Messages > under SMS/MMS > turn off MMS Messages. This should force the Messages to be sent out as simple text messages.
