How can I enable two sided printing from a Mac Pro to an epson workforce 545

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and cannot enable the two sided printing. My printer is an Epson Workforce 545 and it prints two sided very well from my HP Envy. Can you help me? The option is there in the pre sets but it won't let me change it. I also shows up in the print dialog but is greyed out and not an active option. Thanks,

Dori

First you should verify that you have the very latest print drivers for your Epson printer installed on your Mac Pro for the version of the operating system that it is running.

If you have already done so, try removing, and then, re-installing the printer via System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.

Please post back your results.

The key to this situation may lie in these words:

Note: Some options may be pre-selected or unavailable, depending on [...] if you are accessing the product over a network.

This may depend on whether the Printer has its own IP Address, or is "Shared" onto the Network from another Mac or PC.

In older versions of MacOS, one tends to just get "generic postscript printer" which may not provide two-sided support.

In more recent versions of MacOS, a directly-connected Printer (one with its own IP Address) your mac will try to fetched a Driver from the printer, or an attempt is made to download the Printer driver directly.

Having the Printer Driver available on the local Mac may be the key to success.

Another user solved a print-features-missing problem through an unexpected method.

Their printer has Wi-Fi access, and the default setting for the Printer driver was AirPrint. AirPrint is a much-simplified standard interface for iPhones and similar devices -- it is not equivalent to Wi-Fi access for a printer.

When setting up their Printer, they "paused and looked around" and found that the default setting for the Printer was "AirPrint". when that was changed, the Printer added the options that seemed to be missing and all was well.

If that does not change anything, you may be able to set up again and Manually specify that the Driver to be used is the Driver for the essentially-identical 645, which the manufacturer says does support the duplexer.

My Mac is running OS Sierra 10.12.6. No. I purchased the Mac in late February and did not have a need for two sided printing. I still run my PC for many of my documents as I am learning the Mac system. The option for two sided printing shows but is greyed out and cannot be turned on. I also cannot control any of the preset functions.

Thank you all for trying to help. Yes it really is a Workforce 545 probably about 6-7 years old but it works great. It just doesn't want to print two sided with my new MacBook Pro. Oh well, I will just have to keep those jobs on my PC. Cant justify replacing a printer that works so well for everything else. The community trying to resolve issues is great, again Thanks to all of you for tying to work out this issue.

Sorry if I'm wrong.

The Epson home pages give no note above 2-sided printing for 545, unlike 645.

Is it really 545?

User guide ( at the link posted by Grant )

The section "Two-SIded Printing, ..." says only for 645 series.

Two-Sided Printing, Scanning, Copying, and Faxing

You can print on both sides of the page automatically, using the product's built-in duplexer (WorkForce 645 Series only). By loading your pages in the automatic document feeder (ADF), you can also scan, copy, and fax double-sided documents (WorkForce 645 Series only).
