What is this VM drive doing on my MacBook Pro

I've Been trying to clone my MacBook Pro's SSD with a better one , I try to clone the Hard drive and "Super Duper!" doesn't see Machintosh HD. So I look in Disk Utility, and I see something called Container disk1 and Inside it, I found something called VM. As far as I know, that could mean Virtual Machine I want to know why this is on my computer, and whether its the reason I can't clone my hard drive or not, and I want to know how to get rid of it! can anyone help????

It means "Virtual Memory" and is where swapping takes place these days (after HS/APFS conversion).

Container disk1 is a group of APFS volumes that cooperate together to consume the space allocated to the container.

You need to make sure that your cloning method is APFS friendly (if there is such a tool yet). From what I understand you'd not get a lot of luck cloning a separate volume by itself as the real storage unit is the container that you discovered.

ok, thank you.

That may have answered my problem, I was trying to clone the Hard drive using 'SuperDuper!'

and I forgot to even acknowledge that they probably haven't made a patch for HS/APFS conversion
