iPhone 8 Plus Screen Auto Dimming

I purchased the new iPhone 8 Plus 256gb Gold and noticed that even with Auto-Brightness, Night Mode, True Tone and other relevant display settings turned off, that the screen was auto dimming whilst actively using the phone in different environments and light. I tried changing my auto lock setting to see if this helped but it did not. I even removed my tempered glass screen protector think it may be affecting the screen brightness, but this failed to resolve the issue. The iphone was restored twice but still no luck. I also noticed that upon restarting the phone the screen brightness would default to 0% and I would have to try and view the dim screen to access Control Centre to turn my brightness up again (frustrating and tedious). My iPhone 8 Plus was replaced and now I have my second iPhone 8 Plus doing exactly the same! I have even set this new iphone up as a new device to ensure that no issues/bugs were transferred from my back-up. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced these issues with the new iPhone 8 Plus or 8 as there is limited information reported online about this issue? I would be interested to hear from people as Apple have not had any reports of it either so are trying to ascertain what is going on. At present, I am just monitoring my iPhone and when this "dimming' issues occurs again I have to try and screen record it so Apple can see. Thanks 🙂

Ive experienced the exact same thing.. went back to the store to exchange my phone to a newer one.. what happens is I always have my screen 100% brightness with all the auto dimming settings off and when I start using an app approx. 8 - 15 mins, it starts dimming to 75%, then gets stuck at 50%.. it wouldnt change brightness until 5 mins later.. its irritating because i cant see whats on my phone on bright areas..

Same thing, iPhone 8. It’s been nearly a year and no fix, hundreds of us have this issue, I’d recommend keeping your phone usage down as much as you can I guess? The less you use it the less often it’ll heat up, and if it constantly heats up like that than the issue will get worse (at least that’s how it is for me) so the more often it’ll dim, and the last thing you’d want is to be trying to squint at a website or something trying to figure out whether that letter is a 5 or an S. Maybe someone at apple will see this and fix it, hopefully it’ll be fixed with the new update coming soon? good luck everyone!!

This is also occurring on my phone and it is incredibly annoying and frustrating. When I set a setting to one thing, I expect it to stay set. Is there a fix in the works Apple? Is there an update or something that can done in settings? I am older and my eye sight isn't the greatest. I need that bright light on folks!!

Go to Settings/General/Accessiblity - Display Accommodations and turn off Auto Brightness. Then go to Zoom (in the same place) and turn it off.

If the brightness continues to dim on its own that means that they phone is approaching the upper limit of its operating temperature range and it is dimming the screen to reduce the heat load. The alternative would be for the phone to abruptly shut off when it reached the temperature limit.

I purchased the 8 plus new last month due to the new models not having fingerprint sign in for bank accounts, etc. I’m experiencing the same brightness issues as others. However mine is not from being on any particular app when it occurs. If I charge it, the next morning the screen brightness has been changed to a lower setting.

If I close the apps and put it down without any app running and not charging it lowers. My wife and I both have the same phone. She has no problems with hers but mine is causing lots of problems.

We’ve used apple since the iPhone 5. If none of the fixes suggested in this thread fixes the problem then I’ll most likely move back to android.

I don’t understand why apple insists on changing things that their customers like and changing them and then they don’t fix problems when they are told that it causing problems.

Facial recognition is great to open a phone but most banks and credit card companies don’t offer facial recognition as a means to open your account to make payments, etc.
