Hi there, mri1397!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue removing the notification about your Time Machine backup. The good news there are a few options you have get this situation taken care of. First, to just remove the alert, go to System Preferences > Time Machine and uncheck the option to “Show Time machine in the menu bar”.
A second option is to make the backup, which will remove the alert. This help article can assist you with the steps: How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac. If you have issues making a backup, please check this help article: If you can't back up or restore your Mac using Time Machine
A third option is to simply turn off Time Machine. Then it will no longer ask about backups nor provide alerts if a backup hasn't been completed.
Take care!

Hi, I had this problem too since the update to High Sierra.

This worked for me:

Turn off all time machine options (obviously). Then not so obviously, right click the disk icon above Select Disk, then Stop using xxx for this backup. Confirm and hopefully you'll not have a disk or location for Time Machine to backup to.

Worked for me 🙂

Thanks Apple for not putting this option in the notifications center at the very least.
