Ear Buds and Volume Controls Dont Work After iOS 11 Update + Other Issues

Ever since updating to iOS 11 and its "fixes" that have been released my phone has been running like molasses. But the specific problem here is that if i'm listening to a podcast through the podcast app, about 70% of the time using the controls on the Apple ear buds to change the volume wont work, neither will the volume buttons on the side of the phone. When this happens the only way to get the headphone volume control to work is if I have the phone unlocked and im looking at the podcast app. The volume buttons on the phone will work only if the phone is unlocked. In the case that the volume buttons on the side of the phone dont work even when the phone is unlocked, the only way around it other than a restart is to bring up the control panel and change it manually there.

The other issue that happens pretty much 100% of the time now is that if I try to pause a podcast using the center click on the ear bud controls, it will pause the podcast but then starts to play music. The only way to turn it off is to pause the Apple Music app on the lock screen. If you go into the apps running in the background, the Music app is no where to be found as if its not running at all.

Plus the phone in general is still running very sluggish. There has also been a few occasions where the phone refuses to give sound with phone calls. It'll show i'm calling someone but no dial tone or ring can be heard.

The only fix i've found for any of these issues is to do a hard restart of the phone (holding power and home buttons). This means i've had to restart my phone more in the past few weeks than I have in the nearly 2 years i've owned the phone.

What is going on with this OS? This is extremely frustrating and i'm losing my patience. How did Apple release something so broken? Im seriously considering going back to Android.

I just want to make this clear. The phone and ear buds, including all of its buttons worked perfectly fine before this update.

Having this same problem, spent a lot of time troubleshooting it.

You’ll need to have the Music app on your phone that is default by Apple. I had deleted mine, having never wanted to pay for music services. You can redownload it from the App Store. Not sure how or why, but the app needs to be on your phone in order to allow pandora to work with your control center and earbuds too. I verified it works after a restart of the phone. Volume controls work, even after the screen is locked. Pandora will now connect with Fitbit again. Also shows pandora controls in the swipe-up control center. Hope this helps! I knew you were not crazy, nor have a broken phone!

We are users just like you are. Your threat to buy an Android does;t affect us at all.

Restart an app. If an app isn’t working properly, you can force it to quit, then try to reopen it. (Typically, there is no reason to quit an app; quitting it doesn’t save battery power, for example.) To quit the app, double-click the Home button, then drag the app up from the app switcher. Opening it again may resolve the problem.

If the App restart doesn't help, delete the app and reload it from the App Store.

Sure.

Why are you telling me how to quit an app? I already know how to quit an app, it doesn't fix the issue. Sorry, this reply wasnt very helpful.

I can’t post here for some reason, so I’ll just reply here

Dear Apple,

I want to thank you for releasing update 11.0.3 for iOS. I just bought iPhone 7 Plus few months back and I’ve loved that phone. So, thank you for releasing an update, that broke my amazing phone. But then again, since iOS 8 that’s been Apple-style! To release broken updates.

Now every time I want to use speaker when speaking on phone, if there’s something running in the background, like Safari or Facebook, or anything else, it doesn’t work. Nope. No can use speaker. I press speaker button and it lights, but no, nope, no speaker. I have to restart my phone to get it work again. And when I do that, my background light has resetted to the dimmest. Now I have to change that so I can see something of of my phone’s screen. And volume control doesn’t work with my bluetooth headphones.

But the greatest part for this update is freezes. Yes, phone freezes sometimes, and wait for it, because of your stupid *** new broken update, I can’t even HARD RESET! No! No more hard reset at all! Nope! I have to wait for 5 to 10 minutes to my phone return magically to life. I can’t shut it down when it does that, I can’t use hard reset, because apparently you’ve removed that all together. So, my iPhone 7 Plus 256Gt, that costed like 900€, is now a useless piece of crap.

So, just wanted to say Thank You Apple for yet another broken update and **** you. I’m going to make my life mission to turn people away from your products. Because you’re a bunch of idiots. Thanks again, Apple!

Oh, and because there’s other people with same problems as well with the new iOS update, you’re saying they broke their phones also? It’s like a ******* national break your iPhone national day or something? I know, you’re people who are willing to defend something, not even giving it a chance that your favourite company could screw up, and that’s fine, it’s stupid as ****, but fine. I love Apple, I’ve been a huge Apple fan for a long, long time. But they have screwed up a lot lately.
