Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, derekfromcoleraine.
If I understand your post correctly, you have to manually press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your iPhone as it is not automatically locking. I'd like to help.
Let's take a look at the setting that can affect this feature. Tap Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and see which amount of time it is currently set to Auto-Lock after. If you have Low Power Mode enabled, Auto-Lock will be automatically set for 30 seconds. For more information about Low Power Mode, see this article:
Use Low Power Mode to extend battery life on your iPhone
Let us know if that resolves this issue for you.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Take care.
My auto lock is on for 30 seconds and I just realized it didn’t lock once over night!
same for me
You should only have to turn your phone off and back on. Still annoying but better than the full reset you are doing.
I have the some problem on my iphone 8, I tried everything but the issue always comes back. Apple please fix!
Supposedly if you do the full reset the problem should go away permanently - I am reluctant to go through all that and believe Apple can do something so we all don't have to.
I have done this but after two weeks it reverts
This is really a problem. No matter what time duration I set, my IPhone 8 does not auto-lock.
This problem should NOT be marked solved. It keeps occurring on many people’s phones as noted in the many responses in this thread. PLEASE FIX.
i am also facing the same problem, restarting the phone worked but this is not a permanent solution.with brand as big as apple the issue should be addressed by apple and should be solved in an update.
Having the same thing it starts after sometimes of restarting my phone please fix this apple
Same problem also. Worked fine on my 8 for a few weeks now nothing will get it to automatically lock. Such a major security issue. Should NOT be marked as solved. Please fix Apple.
I have the exact issue and reading this post in the past solved the issue after restart. But lately I have seen it reoccurring again.
@apple support: what is the resolution?
Having the same problem. Should not have to shut down so frequently to fix. Apple please create an update to repair this issue.
Same here, I bought iphone x. It won't shutoff for minutes and minutes until I manually do so.
Contact them and ask. Apple does not reply to these posts. support.apple.com/iphone
