Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, derekfromcoleraine.
If I understand your post correctly, you have to manually press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your iPhone as it is not automatically locking. I'd like to help.
Let's take a look at the setting that can affect this feature. Tap Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and see which amount of time it is currently set to Auto-Lock after. If you have Low Power Mode enabled, Auto-Lock will be automatically set for 30 seconds. For more information about Low Power Mode, see this article:
Use Low Power Mode to extend battery life on your iPhone
Let us know if that resolves this issue for you.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Take care.
Nope, did the 11.1.1 update last week, had to do a hard restart yesterday to again get my phone to auto lock. 😟
same problem
Having the same problem. Hard restart fixes problem for awhile but always comes back.
Nope. Not helpful. Even after updating to 11.1.1, it’s still happening. Ridiculous! Tried every fix and each only works for about 10-12 days.
Same thing ha happened to me with8-plus. Very frustrating.
Hello APPLE, can you please fix our problem ...... thank you !!
I did a hard restart, and it worked for me. Let's see if it comes back as it happened to others.
Me too, absolutely no animation on wallpaper - something else going on here.
My iPhone 8 is up to date. It will not auto-lock. Restarting it enables the feature only temporarily. A manual lock is required. I've looked into possible solutions mentioned in this forum—none work.
8 Plus does have this issue and it is annoying as ****, APPLE you reading this? Fix this lame bug!
Just to update my previous post.
I did the hard restart two days ago, and it is still working correctly.
You can try it.
I reboot the iPhone and works for two days, will see if this fixed for good.
Thanks !!
I am also having the same issue - its very frustrating as it is clearly drawing on the Battery.
How can I fix this?
Reboot.
Bug is still present on iphone 8 ios 11.1.1
Glad you have confirmed that the Apple forums are useless as I expected, and the issue is still present on 11.1.1
