iPhone 8 screen will not turn off automatically when not being used unless right hand button is pressed.

If I understand your post correctly, you have to manually press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your iPhone as it is not automatically locking. I'd like to help.
Let's take a look at the setting that can affect this feature. Tap Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and see which amount of time it is currently set to Auto-Lock after. If you have Low Power Mode enabled, Auto-Lock will be automatically set for 30 seconds. For more information about Low Power Mode, see this article:

This suggestion doesn’t solve my problem. My phone WONT auto-lock at all.
Same here AND my husband’s 8... it’s a major security problem for him due to HIPPA laws since he’s in the medical field. Apple needs a fix ASAP!
Issue for me too. 3 work iPhones - same problem.
I too have this problem. Nothing seems to work.
Shutdown and restart worked for me as well.
Regardless if the screen is locked or not, if the display is lit it will not turn off again unless i hit power button
I have this issue as well. The auto lock setting is set to 30 seconds and it stays on indefinitely until I press the side lock button.
I’m now on 11.1 and so far so good. As you’ve said, it can take some time to reappear but fingers crossed it’s now sorted.

I have to the same issue with my iPhone 8. Lastest update does not fix the issue. Please fix it.
I am having the same problem. I have changed/tried all the auto-lock settings, and I tried shutting my phone off (which solved the problem for less than a week). This problem is quite a nuisance
Are you saying it happened With 11.1? I am currently a week and a bit with my wife's phone not having the problem yet, so was hoping it might be fixed.
Same problem for me... when the problem occurs, the dynamic or live image of the home screen and lock screen freeze and jump.
Reebot solve problem for a few days and then reappears.

Problem is back after shutting down the phone.
