I had the same issue. Very frustrating. I went to my contacts and removed multiple account contact syncing. I was syncing my contacts with an Exchange account and also Gmail. I removed the Gmail contact sync and it fixed the issue.

Apparently this issue is solved in latest update i.e ios 11.3
Hello There, for now as a temporary solution, take out the background apps when this happens. It gets resolved.
11.3 beta 3 is the solution

Beta software is absolutely never the solution to any technical issue. Beta software is just that - test software whose features may or may not disappear, and may or may not function the same (if at all) when the production software is released.
Again, it is never wise to rely on beta software to solve a technical issue.
This issue is not yet resolved with the 11.2.1 update. Still this problem persists and with this the iPhone X is just like a $20 phone. What is the use of all the bionic chip, neural engine and embedded co processor if it cannot receive calls like a normal phone.
Apple seems pretty causal about this. I doubt this will be fixed in the next update.
Start using a smart watch with this device . You will have to pick phones from your smart watch and then u can talk on the phone ... this is really sad that company like this shamelessly excepts that their phone has this issue and they are not even ready to replace the phone
If the iPhone is locked when someone calls, you may press the home button to answer the call.
Before answer the call I need to know who is the caller....But it showing the detail of caller(Name/number) 8s - 10s later .
This is a public beta. Released for public so that while using if u find any bug, report it.
All i want to say is 11.3 beta has solved problems for me and many.
no offence meant

Have missed several critical calls. This is a health and safety issue for anyone relying on an iPhone X to respond to family emergencies Can’t believe Apple released such a error prone phone. So many weird glitches across the board.
I am experiencing the same problem on a brand new iPhoneX. Very disappointing. A functionality as basic as a receiving a call and being able to see the caller name and number for almost 30 seconds is compromised. It has been three months for this post but apparently no likely solution. Whats wrong? Apple? A phone should do the minimum it promises. Everything else can wait.
I have an Apple refurbished iPhone 6s+ with iOS 11.2.6. I can't answer incoming phone calls either. The phone starts ringing (and ringing and ringing) but the call never displays on the screen. I have to touch multiple random icons, then the phone icon, and then the Recent tab to get the call to display. Then after answering the call and saying "hello" 2-3 times, the call finally connects but the person on the other end only hears my 3rd "hello". This started happening out of the blue last weekend despite having done nothing to my phone - I haven't updated the iOS or made any setting changes. This is extremely frustrating not to mention VERY disruptive at the office.
A side note - at the same time this started happening, my text Messages have started showing up out of order.
What is going on? Where is the solution for these issue?
