So, I’ve figured out why Apple is being so (for better terms) darn, ugh!!!! It’s a simple psychological discouragement to attempt to prevent users from storing photos on another storage platform so Apple can capitalize charging storage space. Let’s take Google Drive and Dropbox for example. Those platforms are full of functionality and the ability to transfer files in bulk indiscriminately. But with iCloud when you run out of the storage space you currently have, guess what? You can buy more... smh. The more pics you add, the more monthly storage space they will ultimately charge. Like seriously, who’s gonna sit there and individually select 500+ pics, heck, 300+ pics for that matter. It’s M.O.N.E.Y. Apple, MONEY! Not a concern with functionality or accessibility. The ability to multiple select is disabled for a reason guys. After I download these remaining photos guess what, yeah, goodbye iCloud.

Shift and select no longer works in iCloud. But it still does in Photos, which is where your device will also be stashing the pics, so if you are trying to download them to a Mac then open Photos, click on All Photos and then you can download the originals from there by selecting all in the normal way. I've just tried it and it worked. It is obviously a deranged way to have to do things, but there's the workaround.

Well, turns out there is a way. It's quite a **** of a work around, but it WILL get your photos onto your device all at once, and the only way Apple can stop it is to reverse engineer some of their platforms (mind you, they probably will once enough people do this as it is OBVIOUS they are making it this hard on purpose) But here's the link. Enjoy.

How to get Apple photos out of iCloud - YouTube

There is no select all or multiple photos. iCloud is a bank for apple. They want you to store photos and make use of their virtual space and harder to instantly withdraw the photos and videos. The harder it is for you to download and delete the photos, they make money because you will get frustrated like me and keep it in there and later purchase more space. Pennies per month for Apple times billions of users is a lot of money.

Found something that may be helpful as I am currently trying to download and delete 5000 photos and videos from iCloud.

As I individually selected about 100 photos to download, I delete and do not touch anything until the photos are deleted.

The page reloads and another 100 are automatically selected. As time goes on after several rounds, I add more and I'm at downloading 500 photos at a time.

I think they've done this deliberately as anyone downloading large numbers of images is likely planning on cancelling their iCloud subscription anyway. I tried downloading large numbers at once and each opened a pop-up and as so many opened so fast I couldn't check the "automatically" box. So then hundreds of images tried to open at once and on and on. It's like malware in that respect. I also suggest you change your destination folder for downloads too in advance and just get through it.

Of course this is deliberate. But remember, Apple knows what's best for you. Your photos were designed to be stored in iCloud, your wallet was destined to pay for more space, that's just the way it is, I don't see why so many people are upset at Apple for protecting them from themselves.

Look, if you were to download all your images to your hard drive, flash drive, etc., when that device fails, you wouldn't have any of your precious memories backed up. Or lets say you backed them up to your dropbox/Google Drive/OneDrive/etc account, then when your insecure non-Apple account got phished, all of your precious memories would be gone. Apple is just protecting you.

Besides, it's helpful to remember that these aren't really "your" photos anyway, they are Apple's photos that you took for them. You should just be grateful that Apple lets you view them on any of their approved devices that they will happily allow you to borrow for a modest four digit fee.

940 some people have the same problem. A third-party app like AnyTrans works well. It even downloads all your iMessages. I loved it so much, I bought it and am enjoying the full power of seeing my complete iPhone on the Explorer portion of this App. It is also free-to-try ... AnyTrans® - Your Almighty iPhone & Android Manager - New Release. Best wishes to you!

This is not a helpful answer. Clearly there is a problem here caused by a flaw (that can easily be rectified), in the iCloud interface.

To me, it seems that the only reason for a select all feature to not be available is to try a pressure people to begin paying for an increased iCloud capacity. If this was not the case then this feature would have been added a long time ago.

Very underhand of Apple, thankfully it looks like your heyday is coming to an end as the mediocrity of your overpriced products are now being exposed.

The answer provided concerning selecting all the files in an Icloud folder with the shift key ignores 2 important considerations:

1. You can't "select all" from your Apple device, and

2. You can't "PLAY ALL" music files (or any combination of files) from ANY source.

THIS IS JUST MORE APPLE BULLCRAP AND IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. You are supposed to be making things easier, not harder. Get rid of the proprietary nonsense. Why should your users always have to force you to make changes?

The problem of having to click hundreds of pictures without forgetting any is the problem. And I agree with one of the other posts: This is all about making it making it inconvenient so they sell more iCloud. I had iCloud on by mistake. I will not buy more icloud and I start to hate my iPhone because of apple's approach of forcing you to buy stuff you don't want. Sick of apple!

Hey everyone, I struggled with this for MONTHS as I currently have 6,500 photos on my phone (don't judge me, I'm a mom) and no way was I selecting each individually. I had success downloading MobiMover (EaseUS MobiMover - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com) which then allowed me to transfer everything from my phone to my computer. Then I backed it all up on Dropbox using -- get this -- select all!!! Anyway, this problem that's been plaguing me for months was solved in 15 minutes. I couldn't be happier. Take that, Apple.

macos - Downloading all photos from iCloud Photo Library without Photos app - Ask Different

Check out this link. If you're computer savvy and are down to mess around in Chrome or Safari's inspector tool, here's a wonderful workaround that doesn't require clicking 1000+ photos consecutively.

PS: Thanks Apple for deliberately ignoring major user pain points and making us have to dig into a DEV TOOL to extract our photos all because of a poor and ill-intended UX decision to NOT make a "Select All" button :-)

I came here to find the answer to this question as I was trying to download a large batch of specific photos from iCloud, only to realize I had already solved the problem. A while back, I synced my PhotoStream with iCloud and PhotoStream automatically downloaded (and auto downloads) all the iCloud photos. I had 29,000 photos. I seem to recall it taking a few days of letting it run in the background to get it all onto my iMac. And I couldn't "pick and choose" one album over another. But once it's in my photo stream, it's much easier to drag-select than it is in iCloud (since there is NO drag-select feature there or any legitimately useful batch select mechanism at all really). I hope the PhotoStream option will be helpful input for you.
