Bluetooth not working High Sierra

Hi there,

Updated my OS a while ago (2 weeks?) and my Bluetooth isn't working ever since. Turned it on and off a few times, didn't work. So I decided to reset the Bluetooth module, that didn't work either. Neither did removing all connected devices.

The problem is that my Bluetooth keep searching for devices, but can't find any.

Any ideas on how to fix this? People with similar problems?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS High Sierra (10.13)

I just updated today and had to have Apple support walk me through a fix...

After restarting everything in sight. AND disconnecting and reconnecting everything. AND debugging the Bluetooth. Nothing worked. I noticed Bluetooth didn't even give me the option to turn off and next to "Devices" above the empty list was a spinning wheel... searching... for anything.

Apple walked me through powering down and rebooting the SMC.

The simple process (Mine: MBP 2015 15" Retina)

1. Power down

2. Hold SHIFT+ALT+CTRL (on the left side of the key board) + POWER BUTTON for 10 seconds

3. Release all keys

4. Press the power button to boot up

Bluetooth preferences opened up like new. I can turn them on and off and every bluetooth thing in sight was an option.

Typing this from my wireless keyboard now. Hope this helps.

I noticed this bug after installing Sierra High in my job's iMac and then I had to find a Windows mouse with a cable to finish setting up and then after updated again from the App Store this trouble has gone...My latest version working fine is 10.13.3

I've had the same intermittent bluetooth connectivity issues too with keyboard, trackpad and headset on my 2011 MacBook pro. I just installed the latest 10.13.2 update which didn't seem to fix it (yet). This fix works for a while - but I've had to do it several times:

  1. Hold down Shift + Option keys, go to the bluetooth icon in the menu bar you'll see a "Debug" option
  2. In the sub-menu choose "Remove all Devices"
  3. then after that, choose "Reset Bluetooth Module"
  4. Shut down the Mac (not restart)
  5. Restart the Mac
  6. Reconnect your bluetooth devices

It's a pain in the @$$ to keep doing, but it works.

Hope this helps

Ok, I seem to have found a solution to my problem regarding the mouse not connecting...this has worked for both me and my wife.

So when your mac is on sleep mode and you hit a key to wake it up, you are then on the screen to log in, this is when you need to click your mouse so it connects (before you type your password)

Problem solved 😉

Apple doesn't want to take responsibility for this. Instead they act like we're all just insane. They literally even changed hardware in my new iMac and that didn't fix it. The only fix? I went back to Sierra well over a month ago and ironically NOOO ISSUES SINCE. The only issue is now my computer CONSTANTLY wants me to upgrade. Sad to see so many are still having the same problem as I have to scan this to see WHEN I CAN ACTUALLY upgrade again. Sad.

I guess I have the same issue with my Magic Mouse:

Sometimes, it disconnects, sometimes macOS looses BT completely, and at least once I had two entries for the single mouse I have (none was working).

After reboot, the mouse connects again - but I didn't become an Apple customer because I want to fix problems with reboots and fresh installs.

Update on this - after an update of OSx last night on machine, today a new message suddenly popped up in the middle of the day declaring that my keyboard was operating via a wired connection. I tried the magic mouse and it connected straight away - unpliugged the keyboard and same. And they have stayed active via a number of power offs (to sleep).

I just got the feeling that the new message might indicate some activity in keyboard/mouse support. Will post further later.
