Bootcamp - Magic Mouse & Keyboard stop working

Hi there,

About a month ago I installed Windows 10 via Bootcamp. Out of the box it worked great and my magic keyboard and Magic Mouse 2 worked fine.

After some updates (had needed to activate windows, purchased licence and did so)/software changes now my keyboard and mouse don’t work.

When I boot windows the Magic Mouse and keyboard work fine... as long as I keep the Mouse active or keep typing. If I let them go idle for a few seconds then Botha top working!

They are still listed as connected in Bluetooth settings (and battery is fine) but they just don’t respond. If I restar again they will work if I use them constantly but as soon as I let them rest nothing.

Very very odd... any idea what could be causing this!?

Thank you!

This sounds exactly like my issue. It was working just fine in Bootcamp before I updated to Fall Creator's Update. If I restarted it would work as long as I kept using the devices. If I left the bluetooth devices idle though they would stop working even though Windows said they were still connected. I also tried reinstalling the Bootcamp drivers after the Fall Creators Update and yet the problem persisted.

Disabling the Bluetooth power management resolved the issue for me.

Windows 10:

  1. Right-click on Start, and select Device Manager.
  2. In Device Manager, click the arrow next to Bluetooth, and select the Bluetooth radio.
  3. Right-click the Bluetooth radio and select Properties.
  4. Select the Power Management tab, and see if there is a check next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Those steps were taken from Microsoft Windows support article A Bluetooth mouse or keyboard fails to reconnect after being left idle.

I hope this helps someone else.

Reinstall the Apple Boot Camp Windows Support software again. This is to determine if Windows 10 installed something that compromised the Apple code. Reboot Windows 10. Have your Apple Bluetooth input devices resumed normal operation? If not, check the Mac App Store Updates for any new updated Boot Camp Windows Support Software releases.

If you have installed the Fall Creator's update, it may take Apple awhile to catch up with the Boot Camp Windows Support software update, if required.
