(Do this first) So on your computer you select the playlist you want to sort, go up top to View, go to View As then select artist, name, album etc. (Do this second to make sure it's sorted on your phone right) plug in your phone, go to the phone, go to where it says on my device and select the playlist you want to sort go to View again and select Sort By then pick what you want to sort the music by, then sync your phone. I believe this is the only way to sort the music how you want to, is on your actual computer.

Finally figured out a way to do this!
So once you have the songs in the playlist, connect it to your computer, make sure its already sorted by name, by going to view--> sort by--> name on iTunes.
Go to the playlist you want to sort, right click, hit duplicate. Now the new playlist is sorted and you can delete the old one. A little extra work until they add this feature. By doable.
Everything transferred to my phone automatically.
1. Open iTunes on your computer
2. Click on the playlist that you want to alphabetize
3. Click "View" from the Menu, then go to "Sort by" and choose "Name"
4. Right click on your playlist name and choose "Copy To Play Order"
Your playlist on your phone will update. I don't plug my phone in or anything, just have it connected over wifi. I hope this helps. The other responses seem rather lengthy and I think this is pretty short and easy.
The easiest way to do this is to duplicate the playlist and send it to your iPhone. Here are the steps I took to do this:
On your computer, open the playlist. Then go to "view" and select "sort by" then "name." The playlist should now be in alphabetical order. The problem occurs when the playlist on your phone is still not in alphabetical order. So, right click on the playlist name to the left of iTunes and select "duplicate." Then send that playlist to your phone via text, iDrop, etc. Go to the playlist you just sent yourself on your phone and it should be in alphabetical order. You can download this playlist and delete the original playlist.
No. (in response to the Apple recommended answer by Pauli89.) That's how you sort songs alphabetically in the list of all songs. The question from the OP was how to sort songs IN A PLAYLIST alphabetically. In a playlist, there is no sort available in iOS 11 that I have found. I want to do this as well. I have a playlist with >10,000 songs, and it would be REALLY convenient to be able to sort it.
Go to your MAC and sign in to iTunes. Select a list and from the top header, click on "VIEW" and select the dropdown "SORT BY". From there you can sort by artist, album, song, etc. You have to do this for every list separately.
You go to your song list and at the upper right corner it says sort and you click that and you can choose to sort your songs by title or artist.
They are sorted once you play a song on the playlist. On the bottom of screen is the active song that is playing. If you scroll up, the playlist will appear in alphabetical order. Sadly I have. Or found a way to delete the duplicates from the active playlist.
It’s essy. Log into iTunes on your Mac. From the top header select VIEW then select drop down SORT BY and then select your method. You must do this for EVERY playlist you want sorted.
I’m switching to Spotify because of this problem. It’s really inconvenient. Apple needs to either bring back the sort option in playlist or give you a notification if you’re adding a duplicate song to a playlist. What a joke
Click on the iPhone icon located at the top of the page. Tap the playlist you want to sort. Top of the screen tap on view. Go to sort by. Tap playlist order. It will organize the playlist on the iPhone by how you set it up in iTunes.
Yes this works. But how do you sort a playlist alphabetically?
It's bothering me too - I had songs already sorted into playlists on my iPhone, but then I added more playlists and a lot more songs, and I think i've added duplicate, but since I can't put it into alphabetical order, I have to go through each playlist and look at one song, and scroll all the way through to make sure it doesn't appear again. It's super agitating that they removed the option to alphabetize playlists on the iPhone AND iTunes on a computer.
Work around, yes. Solution, no. I'm forever adding and removing songs to/from playlists. Apple you're really starting to drop the ball on the simple stuff now, start fixing this issues/stop making your products less usable and start giving us products we can do all the things we want to in an easy manner. What happened to the "everything should be achievable in 3 clicks" mantra?
I agree this does not solve the problem as to sorting music on iOS 11. All the replies and solutions call for plugging your iPhone into a computer/ Mac. I don’t have either I use an iPad and the IPhone. So once again how can you sort Music without the use of. A computer or Mac
