why does my cursor skip while I am typing

How can I stop my cursor from skipping on my MacBook Pro with OS Sierra 10.12.6?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Hi Katherine,

There are lots of you tube answers. Here is one you can watch and there are more!

Go to System Pref>Access> Ignore magic track pad. Try this first.

If it was a systemic issue there would be many more posts in this community complaining about the issue. I have seen some posts about erratic mouse movement but none about a skipping cursor. Are you perhaps running some third party app that claims to manage your cursor? Does this happen in all apps or only in a specific app? Does this issue still occur if you boot in safe mode?

Maybe your battery is swollen and affecting the track pad.

Take the computer to an authorized service center for evaluation and diagnosis.

Nope!!!! I have even tried to see if it skips when I do touch the touchpad and it doesn't skip - no there is something wrong. There is a detailed discussion where various people are experiencing something similar.

Yeah - I did that with the first computer - probably spent 20 hours in the Apple Genius Bar with the number of visits waiting and patiently working with techs to fix it and another 20 hours on the phone with tech support. The keyboard and trackpad and battery were replaced. Finally my computer was replaced and low and behold, the new computer does the same thing! Looks like this is a common problem based on hits I found with a google search and Apple doesn't know how to fix it.

When you google it seems that there are a number of people who are running this.

I am not running a third party app that I know of and know it happens in Chrome, Word, Thunderbird, Safari, any app in which I am typing.

I haven't booted in safe mode on this computer but it did on my other one.

How do you correct that? - this is a replacement computer for one that was doing the same thing!
