iPad charging problem

I am infuriated by a persistent problem with my iPad 4. I put it on to recharge using a genuine Apple cable and mains adapter. I go back later and find that it is no longer charging. I detach and reattach the cable at either end and charging recommences. Later I find the message "Not charging". Over and over this happens. I've tried replacing the cable. I've tried using an alternative 5v adapter. Charging still fails after a while. I put the whole thing in a quiet place undisturbed. The same failure occurs. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Hi, I’ve been having similar ‘issues’ with my ipad pro, plug it in, it charges for a while then stops!, I’ve gone full circle with this and the latest Aplle have to say (after replacing my ipad-pro yesterday) is that now I still have the same problem on my ipad, I should restore it to factory, use it for a few days then re-instate the software, they’re telling me the software back-up is corrupted, therefore by taking it to a new ipad I’ve moved the problem, shame they couldn’t have told me that last week, before I backed the ‘old’ one up, and restored it, happy bunny I am not !

I'm glad you were able to get it fixed. Like Idris, I would recommend staying away from any type of liquid, especially WD40. That is not a cleaning solvent, it is an oil based liquid which will actually attract dirt and dust. Given that you used it, I would be diligent in checking this area more frequently now, as the WD40 could increase the possibility of dust, lint, and other dirts getting stuck there. Good luck.

I’m having a charging problem with my iPad Air2. I bought a new Apple cord (10-foot, heavy duty, weighted) at the Apple store, and initially there was no problem. But the cord’s metal tab now scrapes the inside of the port when I try to plug it in, almost as if the tab is too large; I have to almost aim the tab at the port and ease it in, and it takes several attempts before the tab “seats” in the port and begins charging. If I unintentionally move the iPad or the cord, even infinitesimally, the “Not Charging” message pops up and I have begin the process all over again. I have no problem when I use the same cord to charge my iPhone.

Did you try cleaning out the port?

Do you by any chance have a Logitech keyboard attached to your iPad? I have found that since upgrading to iOS 11 I have had an issue with interrupted charging with two separate iPad Pro models (12.9" attached to Logitech Create keyboard case, and 10.5" attached to Slim Combo keyboard case).

If I detach the iPad from the keyboard my current 10.5" iPad Pro seems to charge just fine.

I have the exact same problem: My iPadPro charges in its Logitech CREATE keyboard/case until the three small gold contacts between the two are momentarily disconnected, then charging stops. If I unplug then replug the Apple charging cord into the charging port, charging resumes. Apple couldn’t figure this out and gave me a new iPadPro (11 months into its 12-month warranty), but the same thing happened with the new one. I tried using a different but identical Logitech keyboard case. The problem remained.

I was beginning to suspect that the problem was caused by a software update, since it didn’t occur for the first 9 months I had the two devices. The Logitech support comments all agree that the problem began after the iPadPro 11.0 update.

Meanwhile, Apple should stop selling the Logitech CREATE keyboard/case at its stores until the problem is resolved, and Logitech should do the same. Otherwise, Apple is selling a defective product caused by a defect it itself created.

And, of course, Apple should immediately fix the problem for its existing users.

I have same problem with Logitech slim combo attached to 12.9 iPad Pro. Doesn’t always happen but mostly. I leave keyboard attached all the time as it gives screen protection so it’s irritating when I put it on charge and forget. Was on all night last night so I was expecting 100% this morning but it’d only gone from 5 to 19%. The most irritating thing is that even when I remember to look to see if it’s charging the screen shows all the icons to say it is connected and charging even if it isn’t!!!

Having read this discussion there’s no point in talking to Apple so just need to put up with it til they update the software.
