My screen has blinking horizontal lines out of nowhere. What do I do?

I have a new Macbook Pro with the touch bar. Today, out of nowhere, I got a blinking horizontal line across my screen and it wouldn't go away. It is as if the screen broke or is damaged somehow. This appeared during my work day and now I am very stressed. The soonest time the Genius bar can see me at the Boston location is in a week from now. Is there anything I could do? What is wrong with my screen?

Try resetting your NVRAM and your SMC

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

If the problem still exists try booting in safe mode...

Restart your machine and immediately press and hold the shift key until you see the login screen this will boot your machines utilizing only the necessary kernel extensions and may help isolate a graphics issue.

After that take it to the genius bar and get it fixed for free since it is new 🙂

Also, keep in mind that your display resolution and other hardware related setting are stored in NVRAM.

Your SMC is responsible for some hardware related functions that respond to user interaction such as closing the lid or connecting displays.

So resetting these can sometimes fix what we think are hardware related issues.

Thank you! I couldn't manage to reset my NVRAM - will get to it after work. I think it is more of a hardware problem. ***** that I have to wait till Monday to fix it.
