Trackpad not working after macOS High Sierra upgrade

I get a message "there is no magic trackpad connected" for my trackpad. This started happening after I updated my iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011) to macOS High Sierra. It was working fine until the upgrade. Is this a glitch in the new macOS? How can I fix it? Please help!

UPDATE: embarrassingly, restarting the machine solved the problem below.

My issue is similar but different. I just upgraded to High Sierra (Late 2014 iMac) and have an apple trackpad. The trackpad works for moving the cursor but for nothing else. For example, I cannot open mission control or swipe anything. I cannot open new spaces. In the toolbar it says that bluetooth is unavailable. In system preferences It says that Bluetooth is off (see attached) but the option to turn it on is greyed out. Still, the trackpad and keyboard must be communicating with the computer somehow. When I went into "mouse" on system preferences, I could change the tracking speed on the trackpad. When I went in the "trackpad" in system preferences, it says it is not connected.

Thanks for any help.

try to download the last version of the Numpad-app again on a site that still offers the app

re-install that "new" version after having deleted the "old" app (even if seem the same)

restart your mac

the icon will not be in the menu-bar, you have to start the app

make a shortcut that you will have to use after each restart of the mac

here it works fine...

Kriskool, is your startup drive an SSD?

I had the same issue, and ended up just reverting to Sierra, in part because it broke Magic Numpad.

But the reason I ask about the SSD is that High Sierra automatically installs APFS, the new file system - but only on SSDs, not spinning drives.

And one of the issues I had - missing Logic Pro session templates - was because APFS doesn't support hard links. I wonder whether that's related to Magic Numpad not working for us.

(I think the Logic issue was solved in the latest version, but Mobee seems to be gone - and Magic Numpad supports the original Magic Trackpad, not the current one that goes with the lousy Magic Keyboard [not the original one, which is perfect], so an update would be a longshot even if they were still around.)

Thank you for tour post. Yes I have a SSD + Hard drive both mounted as a FusionDrive and I heard that such a combinaison wasn't converted to APFS by High Sierra yet. As I am not a Logic Pro user so I don't know about the issue. I dont intend either to go back to Sierra just because of the Numpad issue.. and I use the previous Trackpad, not the new one.

I actually had a LMP one, in fact I was one of their first customers. But it stopped working and I bought the Belkin one, which frankly is less finicky (it always connects right away).

But I use a Magic Trackpad mostly for gestures, and I only replace it with the Belkin 10-key when I'm entering a lot of numbers - for example during tax time. So the Mobee is still useful when I need a 10-key but don't want to move the Trackpad (having both + the keyboard is too much).

Hello. I hope it's okay that I jump into this thread. I got a new Imac and I'm trying to pair the Magic Trackpad. Apparently there is software that I'm supposed to download? I found an update but when I try to install it , It says it doesn't work with 10.7. The trackpad was paired to my old computer and worked fine. Any help would be appreciated

Running High Sierra.
