disappearing cursor in High Sierra 10.13.1

after updating from 10.13 to 10.13.1, while I was working and switching between different virtual desktops, mouse cursor started to disappear very often, almost after each switching. Tried to solve problem by moving cursor fast from one side to another, to make it bigger and visible, but this is not helped at all, cursor didn't react and stayed invisible. But I can see how cursor is moving, because of pop-up'ed icons in dock, when cursor moved through them. Switching with cmd+tab helped to make cursor visible every time it got invisible. Restarting helped for a while

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), mouse, cursor

update, since my reply was marked helpful:

it happens when i use other browsers than safari, watching movies. e.g. chrome rendering youtube on screen 1, mouse cursor often goes invisible on screen 2.

if the right-click does not help, it seems that moving the invisible cursor up to the mac-bar (that one on top starting with the apple, "file, edit view...", unsure what name it has) + right-click always! shows the cursor again. at least on my machine.

resetting smc + pram seems the helped having less occurrences too, worth a try.

Same issue, moments after High Sierra update on macbook pro 2011 mouse cursor would disappear. Right-click would sometimes make it reappear, or going to dock or screaming loudly and shaking your mouse cursor like you are virtually strangling whoever is responsible for this also seemed to work. However, going into System Preferences then Accessibility settings then Display and adjusting the cursor size to a bigger size, seems to be working just great. Also, I'm 41 and loosing my natural abilities to see, so two birds with one setting!

Found this suggestion in an older thread:

In System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Zoom, uncheck "Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom" and "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom". I only had the second option checked, but unchecking it resolved the issue.

It appears to only be a temporary fix, as the issue came back a little while later, but it at least fixed the cursor for an hour or two. I was then able to re-fix it by enabling one of the two, backing out to confirm it's saved/applied, going back into the settings and then disabling it again.

I'm experiencing this issue now on macOS 10.13.4, and per my testing, it seems related to the external monitor I'm using. I don't have the issue on the MacBook Pro's display when not connected to an external monitor. The issue surfaces when I'm connected to one monitor (Dell P2715Q) but not when connected to another (Dell U3417W). I believe the biggest difference between the two is the P2715Q (the one that produces the issue) is 4k while the other one (that doesn't produce the issue) is not.

Same issue here, using a secondary monitor for months, and here is what I've observed on a MBP 2016 13" with TouchBar

On 10.13.3, no disappearing pointer issue on second monitor.

After rebooting after updating to 10.13.4 (April 16th 2018), no more pointer on the secondary monitor (1440x2560 - vertical). No pointer issue on primary monitor.

Tried the "accessibility trick - pointer size": changed the pointer size to about ⅔ between normal and the first tick, worked pretty much everywhere, except when hovering text.

When the cursor was the standard left arrow, or right arrow, or in Word, text selector with "center" icon, etc. it worked. But not when it was the "simple" text selector. I even noticed it not working on Finder windows, when hovering the details (created, modified, tags, ...) under the preview of a selected file.

Shaking the pointer to make it appear bigger also worked.

Active corners worked fine.

NVRAM reset didn't change anything.

Changing display resolution didn't make the pointer reappear.

Changing the rotation back to standard (2560x1440 - horizontal) works like a charm. 😳

No issue when having a Virtual Machine running on secondary monitor.

FWIW, I've had the "disappearing cursor" problem for the past month or two (?? since updating to 13.3.3), that is, after a reboot, cursor appears and works on the "choose user" screen, but (sometimes) does not appear on the desktop.

In my case, after a lot of testing, I've determined that this only occurs when I'm using my Magic Mouse 2 (new in 2015). I don't have this problem when I connect an old Magic Mouse 1, or any other old, wired mice. In addition, connecting MM1 seems to solve the problem, that is, the cursor then shows for MM2.

No idea why this is the case - hope it helps someone (Apple?) solve the problem.
