Why won't High Sierra save Jabber account passwords to keychain?

have had the same issue and just went so far as to totally reset messages' settings (deleting all plist files, cache, prefs, etc. in Library) and reset the google account and it still prompts me for password everytime.

please address this bug, Apple!

You may want to try going into System Preferences > Internet Accounts and removing the Gmail accounts that use Messages. Once you do that you can open up the messages app and add the account back by either opening preferences and going to accounts OR clicking add jabber account. Once you add it, you should see the new password addition to the keychain which will have the incorrect "where". Update that and you should no longer be asked for your password on open.

Some thoughts:

1. You may want to delete both keychains that were created by adding the account and try once more and then follow the steps above to repair it.

2. One thing I had to do when my login was behaving strangely (signing me in but always showing connecting) was to go in and generate a new app password. It seemed like using the password I use to login to gmail was causing issues. Maybe worth giving that a shot.

I just did this and did not work.

I'm not using gmail, but a jabber account to view my sms messages on android on imessage.

Do you know if it's possible to wipe my keychain entirely without losing all my files, apps, etc?

I'm not sure about wiping the keychain entirely. Maybe you could just remove the stored passwords and anything else associated with that jabber account piece by piece. Sadly I can't reproduce your setup to try further solutions.

Thanks for trying Steve. For clarity, here are the steps I've tried:

- removed jabber account from internet accounts

- removed keychains with the term "jabber" in them

- restarted machine

- reset my jabber password (separate website)

- added new jabber account to "internet accounts" (sys preferences)

- open message, entered password

- quit messages

-open keychain, changed where values to "jabber". save.

- open messages, input password

- quit and reopen message...

still getting password prompt.

@SteveZz87 - thank you!! For any others that tired this and it did not work, the first couple times it asked me for my Keychain password - not my Jabber account password. I actually thought it did not work at first either, because I was so used to being prompted for this. I had two entries in the keychain for this account, and after two keychain password entries - BAM! It remembered the password. Thanks again!

Just wanted to double check, did you make the where value "Jabber" (capital J) or "jabber"? That's the only thing I can think of that may be effecting the message apps ability to locate the password. The capital J is the one I'm using.

we are using corporate ejabberd and not have problems with messages.app on os x sierra (

This did not work for me. Is there a safe way to clear all keychains and start fresh?
