Slow Graphics Performance MacOS High Sierra

Same Problem with a brand new MacBook Pro with Max specs. Photoshop has become so slow that any image modification takes like 3sec to render. Same with other demanding apps. Such a disaster. It was working great on Sierra. I now need to use my 4k screen with full resolution and have then tiny characters very hard to read.

Sad...

Same issue for me, same suspect model. Fresh install, late 2013 15" MBP, Geforce 750m GPU. I also have a co-worker with this model who is having this issue.

I get it, I'm using a 4 year old computer, but it's still great using Sierra. Really frustrating.

Thanks to the original poster for this question because I too have been experiencing this for at least a week since upgrading. In my testing I believe it's related to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M GPU as well. What's worse is that my work depends on good graphics rendering (WebGL, virtual tours, etc.).

So how do I downgrade back to macOS Sierra? I can't stand this sluggishness any longer.

My issue is different, but perhaps related to ParhamS's. I have been told that I need to install a new, non corrupted OS and have been considering High Sierra. In point of fact I don't want, or foresee ever wanting to use, much of the new functionality that comes with High Sierra. For me, these new bells and whistles are a potential liability in terms of clogging up the processor with unwanted material. In particular I want to be able to use all of my existing photo editing software and MS Word 2011. Have you had any reports of compatibility issues with from users of older Adobe and Nikon software? The specific programs are Capture NX 2 and View NX2, Adobe Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements 10. If High Sierra is not the best option for me, which slightly older version of Sierra would work best with these programs? Thank you for any help you might provide. My machine is a late 2009 iMac with 8GB memory, 4GB Ram and a 3.06 GHz processor.

Thanks for posting back and letting us know it won't fix the issue, that'll save a lot of wasted time.

I guess we either revert back to Sierra or wait and put up with it and hope Apple sort it out sooner rather than later.

Exactly. If I wanted to mess around with installing 3rd party drivers, I'd have bought a Windows PC. I have work to do. Dealing with esoteric driver issues is the best thing about using a Mac, or at least it used to be.

Installing 3rd party drivers is not the solution.

I just installed it but i can't tell if it's fixed yet. The lag just suddenly pops up so i will keep you posted (i use this machine 8 hours a day for work so i'll notice pretty soon). But i do already notice a significant improvement in the spaces switch animation.

Well I'm tempted to try it on my laptop, at least if the preference allows you to use the original driver too...

i'm here for the same reasons that ParhamS had exposed before.

My mac is very slow since the High Sierra update, from starting the computer to execute simple multi tasks (seems that it's always related to the GPU).

I had done all the "necessary" to solve the problem, the NVRAM and PRAM reset, the reinstallation of High Sierra, nothing changes. That was with an apple employee by phone.

Hope that there is a solution for that. After spending 2600€ in this machine, i start to highly regret the fiability of my device. 😐

I would recommend anyone with this issue (particularly MacBookPros from 2013/2014 with NVidia GT 650/750M) to file official support requests and bug reports (if you have a developer account).

When I contacted Apple about this several months ago they had not recognised it as an issue. The more people they have reporting it, the more likely it is to be actioned.

FYI: The bug I filed in the bug reporter has recently been marked as "Closed" (it was first marked as a duplicate, but the report that my bug duplicated has been closed too, which should mean that it has been fixed. Will believe it when I see it).

I’m being told that the high Sierra upgrade has permanently overwritten some firmware or something like that without the option of being able to revert.

This is the image of me booting normally.

I can boot in safe mode and it’s clear.

Any further suggestions?

Just want to add to this thread that I'm another Late 2013 15" MBPR w/ discrete graphics user experiencing graphical slow downs whenever the discrete graphics kicks in. Submitted a bug report to Apple so I hope it gets fixed as it's a bummer to have previously nicely working hardware obsoleted by a software update.
