VM folder removed after update

Really I don't know why, but the MacOS update (still the latest to 10.13.1) delete my folder VM in the root of the hard disk. But only VM folder; I have another folder named Projects, but no action performed on this. The support said the issue is on me, because I forgot to backup this folder before performing the update; this is also true, but why an OS update should remove the VM folder ? Honeslty I was shocked from this MacOS behaviour.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2016, 4 TBT3), macOS High Sierra (10.13.1)

But there was not /vm nor /VM folder when I created it. And, anyway, my filesystem is case insensitive. And if the /vm folder is a system folder I expect that the OS warn me when I tre to create it.

Open disk utility via spotlight , click on view and check mark show all devices .Click on Container disk 1 .

I confirm that High Sierra deleted my /VM/ folder after update. F*CK! There was my Windows virtual machine. Shame on you Apple.

Unfortunately no. The support told me that the only way to restore data was through time machine. But unfortunately I didn’t perform a backup before, so, according to support, the issue was on me.

That's what I thought, just hoped there was some way.

It's stupid not to backup, but it's more stupid to write an install tool that can wipe data without checking something exists first.
