Unlock iPhone X without swiping

On the previous iPhones with Touch ID, we were able to unlock our phone without pressing the home button after getting recognized by Touch ID.

I’m missing this feature on the new IPhone X with Face ID. I would love to be able to unlock my phone without swiping up.

What do you guys think about this?

I think the community can/should give feedback to apple, especially since this iPhone is the first iPhone with Face ID.

If they listen is up to them

Yes, agreed. You absolutely should all provide feedback to Apple. And has been posted more than once, this isn't the place to do it. Apple isn't here. We are ALL users here. If you want Apple to know how you feel, feel free to let them know via the link that has been provided more than once. Feedback - iPhone - Apple

166+ users me-too'ing the point seems significant. I bought one of these for my wife and she's on plan to have me return it as soon as I get home from a business trip. Not a techie. She wanted the better camera in a smaller size, and this issue really bothers her for all her other use. So, take this as at least one user who thinks faceid is not a step forward.

TouchID is lightning fast, to the point getting to the home screen is essentially automatic. I had to learn to hit the home button with a fingernail to stay on the notification window and not accidentally unlock the phone. iPhone X "solved" that "problem".

Why are you suggesting this to us? We have nothing to do with Apple's design strategy. Apple's not here, isn't reading these posts and won't respond to this.

If you're asking why it doesn't do it the way you suggest, the answer is because Apple chose to do it the way they chose to do it.

If you don't like it (I actually think it's a good safety measure and takes virtually no time or effort) and feel you'd like to see this changed, provide feedback to Apple via this link: Feedback - iPhone - Apple

It's difficult to say why Face ID doesn't open a phone without requiring a further swipe but I'd speculate at two possible reasons:

1) "Unlock phone using face recognition only" has been patented and Apple don't have a licence for that patent. It sounds silly but Apple patented unlocking a phone by typing in a number only on a numeric keypad. As a result, non-Apple phones also have to hit the enter key after entering the number.

2) Accidental unlocks. If you pick up the phone and press a button or touch the screen it will trigger the Face ID process. The swipe is a positive confirmation your intention, ensuring that your phone doesn't stay turned on when all you (thought you) did was pick it up and put it in your pocket.

Having the option to turn off that step would be nice.
