skype audio distortion

I'm having difficulty using audio in skype with my new macbook pro. As soon as any audio input is picked up, the volume slider in the sound preferences inmediately begins going up and quickly reaches maximum resulting in total distortion. This same effect does not occur when using audio in ichat. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Barry

Bill, Thanks for your reply. No, the slider does not stay put, only if you hold it in place. When you let go, it inmediately begins jumping back up to max. Upon quiting skype it returns to its previous setting. Very strangd!!! No other devices attached. Anyway the distortion is not so bad that you can't hear anything, but it does make it difficult. I've been on the road for a couple of weeks and just got back on line. Barry

Hello bnorris,

I'd try reloading Skype and repairing permissions before and after. If no joy w/that, consider James suggestion of a headset. Not having ever experienced the "sliding sound level" problem, best I can do. A lot of Skype audio is overdriven and the headset seems to moderate the feedback as well. Perhaps someone else here will come up with a solution and if you do get it fixed on your own, do post back and let us all know.

Respectfully,
Bill Gallagher
