How to use iPhone x lock screen flashlight and camera?

I was having the same issue. But I figured it out. You apply pressure to it like clicking a button; no holding it down or tapping. Press with pressure and then it works!!

Press down on the icons like a button until you feel your phone vibrate then they will startup. You can't just press them until they swell, you have to actually press them down like a button to get them to work from the locked screen on the iPhone X.

Just touching the icon wont work. You need to press a little harder. Then they work like physical toggling push buttons.

My apologies. Do this:

Put your finger on the icon until it swells and then just remove your finger. Don't swipe, just take your finger off and the camera or flashlight will open.

It uses the 3D Touch feature which basically responds to the amount of pressure you give to press the icon. This seems to work by how much of your thumb touches the screen. So when u press with more force, obviously more surface area of your thumb is in contact with the screen.

Nope. Duration isn't the trick. Pressure is the trick. I can turn on the camera or the flashlight in less than a second with a firm push on the icons.

Hi Gingersnaps11, I couldn't work it out either. I had asked the wonderful community and everyone was so helpful but admit I still had trouble LOL. Seeing your comment I just tried again and it worked for me by: holding finger down until the camera or flashlight swells, then just quickly lifting my finger off & to my own surprise it worked. Good luck :-)

That was me too! Pressure is key. Didn’t know this when I had the iPhone 6 but tap harder 🏻

Just push harder, like a push button, not a touchscreen. It pops right ON.

It's actually a 3D Touch gesture--- push firmly on either button until you feel a sort of click, then release.

Force touch on the icons.

Put your finger on the icons and you'll see them swell a bit. Keep your finger on them and drag them up.

Press harder. Really.
