Printing problems with HP Color LaserJet CP5520 after upgrading to HighSierra

You updated the firmware, but did not mention the HP Easy Start (Oct 11, 2017) that has been updated for High Sierra, and will get the latest printer driver for the CP5525dn. Give that a whirl and see if it solves your printer issues.

I also did not read if you had reset the printing system... in System Preferences : Printers & Scanners for this printer on the afflicted systems after the 10.13.1 update.

Not off hand. Have you looked in the Console logs and user reports (Dock : Launchpad : Other : Console) for any issues related to the printer around the time that these print jobs vanish?

Most recent activity is at the bottom of the Console view.

Any specific application, or file type that is consistently causing this issue?

Try booting into Safe Boot mode, and see if the vanishing print job issue continues. Follow this with a normal reboot, and test the print queue issue again.

I am having a similar problem but with a different HP color laser printer (M551). However, I get, what appears to be, a Postscript error while printing some files. First page prints out with the error but remaining document doesn't. When watching the print spool, the job disappears without any movement of the spool status bar. All of this started happening to the same MBPro, on the same printer, on the same network upon the update to High Sierra last month. All good prior to that point. I have a case with apple opened but they have no resolution.

This issue appears to have started with High Sierra and the same or very similar problems are in a number of different HP user web discussion threads, as well, on the HP site.

I have exactly the same problem.

I am using an HP Color Laserjet M551. Worked PERFECTLY on MBPro 13" (2017) prior to upgrade to High Sierra. However after the upgrade, MS Office and PDF files are generating the exact same error that you describe when printing from MS Office and from Preview. It looks like a Postscript error. And these same files print perfectly from a MBAir on Sierra to the same printer on the same network. The files also print perfectly to an OfficeJet from the MBPro. Just not to the Color laser printer.

I have the latest, greatest updates on both the MBPro and the latest firmware on the printer, from about 6 weeks ago.

There is definitely a problem with High Sierra. PCL protocol prints fine (not Postscript), but PCL is black and white and low resolution...

I have been talking to apple for a week and have spent about 3 hours with them on the phone trying to solve the problem. No luck. If anyone from Apple is listening: Case # ***.

I tried that on mine: Reset the printing systems, reinstalled the OS, reinstalled the printer about 10 times, SMC reset, PRAM reset. No luck on my end. Tried the install of the HP Easy ... (whatever it is...) no luck.

My little technical knowledge points to a Postscript driver error.

What you did was thread-jack the original post regarding an HP CP5525dn Enterprise printer. Yours cannot be the exact same problem then, and you should have started a new post regarding *your* particular HPLJ 551 printer.

That doesn't make sense to remove the case number from my post. How else are the apple techs going to connect the dots?

I guess one can't argue with a 'bot...
