panic UPSB: thunderbolt power on failed

Every time my macbook hibernates and/or sleeps a significant amount of time it crashes when waking. I'm getting the same kernel panic every time. This began after applying the 10.13.1 update and happens 1-3 times a day. Anyone have any ideas?

I will see if this does the trick for me. However, I should note that my Macbook Pro had problems with the thunderbolt ports from day 1. It was purchased late 2016, so not a High Sierra issue. Crashing started recently for me, but is the same as others have noted. I have found Apple extremely unhelpful. At Genius bar and on phone, no one seems to have a clue what we are describing, and of course, no solution. The behavior I experience seems most often to involve sleep mode, but it is inconsistent. Further, when I reboot, it requires a wireless connection (ethernet might work), and I get an message saying a critical update is needed. After a round or two, an "update" supposedly occurs, except no info is given and no update seems to actually occur. The boot runs through and then I can log in. Today this happened when I logged into a network that does not allow file/data transfers (Gogo wifi inflight) without a purchase. I purchased nothing.

Something is fundamentally wrong here, and Apple is leaving us high and dry. Again.

Hello. I am also having this issue. It's been happening since the day I got the Mac (2017 MBP 13 Touch Bar). I brought it in to Apple, had the hard drive completely wiped multiple times, had the charger replaced, and still no luck. I'm now starting to dig through programs I have installed to see if they may be the cause. Just out of curiosity, is anyone else that is having this issue running Parallels?

I am resolved. It appears 10.13.2 had the fix I needed. This is kind of consistent with Sierra which wasn't stable for me until the 2nd patch either.

I don't think that fixes anything. My MBP just completely froze trying to write a backup to a thunderbolt disk. This sure seems like a hardware issue to me.

I tried above reset option(Shift + Control + Option + Power Button), so far I didn't get any "thunderbolt power on failed". Will wait for a day or two to confirm you back.

I have the same issue. Ever since the high sierra upgrade. I have an imac. Memory all came with the unit. Seems to be related to the external display. When I disconnect it, I don't have the issue.
