Why is there a strange PC in my sidebar?

There was a strange PC lurking in my sidebar under Shared. I was unable to delete/eject it with a right click, but by disconnecting the ethernet cable to my Verizon router, it disappeared. What is going on? Is there a problem? How do I keep such devices out of my sidebar?

iMac with Retina 5K display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), 16GB memory, 27" display, 2015 ver.

Because there is a device on your network with file and/or print sharing turned on. If you don't believe it should be there, secure your network.

File and print sharing are turned off. In fact all sharing is off.
