No service after iOS 11 update

iPhone 6 Plus getting searching or no service. I can make phone calls/iMessage while on WiFi. I’ve tried these steps:

1. Turn on/off, hard shut off as well.

2. Turn on/off airplane mode, cellular, LTE, roaming.

3. Reset network settings.

4. Reset all settings. (Worked for a day only).

5. Update to 11.1 iOS and 30.1 carrier update.

6. Check time and date settings.

7. Took out SIM card.

8. Took off case.

9. No water damages.

10. Restore (Worked for a day).

Looked at multiple sites and so far it still says searching. AT&T account is good. I have 5 iPhones on my account and they have not updated and they still work. (iPhone 5s, 6, 6, 7, 7). Trying to avoid going to the Apple store as I know they will probably throw a $320 charge as I’m out of warranty. Any tips is welcomed!

This is my experienced SOLUTION for the intermittent and consistent "No Service or Searching" and Cellular Data/Cellular Network connectivity issue on one of my company’s mobile device. Problem was not a device software/hardware issue, which is especially demonstrated for those who have a new device or have performed a full device reset. Apologies in advance for the lengthy reply and hope this steers you as well as others towards a permanent resolution.

Device Information was incorrectly logged in the wireless carrier's system.

Step 1 - Accurately confirm your Device Information. First, go to Settings>Phone to view My Number (phone number). Second, go to Settings>General>About to view the device's Serial #, IMEI, ICCID, etc. IMEI=International Mobile Equipment Identity and this 15-digit serial # differs from the manufacturer’s serial #. ICCID=Integrated Circuit Card Identifier and this 20-digit # directly references the SIM card that's physically installed in device’s external port.

Step 2 - Contact your wireless carrier and ask them to verify that pertinent device info is respectively aligned. Just an FYI, a carrier’s system may demonstrate info correctly, but a refresh of info may be required in their system so that correct functionality is stimulated. ASK THEM TO CLEAR OUT ALL OF THEIR LOGGED FIELDS FOR DEVICE INFO AND RE-ENTER THE INFO. They should also ask you to power down your device during this process. Begin with the basic info assigned in their system, such as phone number and iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6S, 7, 8, X. Next, confirm the serialized type info. ICCID is critical. Be prepared to replace the carrier’s provided SIM card should the ICCID not match their system. Once device is powered up and is functioning correctly through cellular service ONLY, it’s also a good time to ensure that the Visual Voicemail is functioning. You or they, using another phone, can leave a test voicemail.

***Resolution steps above makes assumptions of mobile device general readiness.***

Refer to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201415. I’m sure I’ve missed some, but a few examples of readiness are as follows:

Device isn’t damaged.

Device appropriate SIM card is correctly installed.

Device cellular is turned on and cellular settings within device are correctly configured.

Device software is updated to iOS 8 or later version.

Device is manufactured specifically for and/or approved for use through wireless carrier.

Within wireless carrier service area and no cellular outages.

Wireless carrier account is in good standing/active and there isn't service type block referencing your device's IMEI. Blocks/blacklisting logged by wireless carrier can be from device reported as lost or stolen.

Carrier Settings update has been installed on device. If cellular or Wi-Fi service is available when checking Carrier version installed, you’ll see a pop up window for a Carrier Settings Update Available. Go to Settings>General>About and wait a few moments. Apply this update whenever it’s available.

Cheers & Good Luck!

I'm sorry but I don't believe any competent Verizon would state Apple "toasted" the phone (update or no update) much less blatantly state obvious, false, and illogical info about the SIM card or the SIM tray.

If you received any info by a rep there that even slightly resembled remarks you stated were said by a rep, you received what is known as "pushback" in which an employee either (a) doesn't care to assist you or (b) doesn't have a knowledge base and/or they're new, thus they couldn't help you even if they truly wanted to. They simply lack the knowledge.

As a result, an extremely common tactic is to first, get rid of the customer asap. Then, they will have the customer believe that it's anyone else's fault who is remotely associated with the issue. These same techs do blind transfers to Apple & other businesses, so that the Apple tech has no time to gain information from the rep whatsoever to properly assist the customer and worse, the customer is now really confused as to why they got transferred with no intro, etc. These reps know Apple techs' goal is to resolve issues, and Apple reps are trained to be very direct with carriers in all things, including letting them know if they can assist somehow or if it's a carrier issue, bc they will not allow a customer to be thrown about all bc a rep is lazy and prefers to sell products & make commission, for example, vs dealing with a "problematic" customer, or bc the rep has no clue what you're even talking about. Two primary reasons a rep will do this to a customer...

Furtgermore, Apple techs will not take over a call if it is definitively a carrier issue and will have documentation to support such, as they know this is not helping the customer but instead, will only hurt and frustrate them more. Big no no....unacceptable.

If an Apple rep did this, knowingly or unknowingly, and tells a customer a carrier ruined a device or speaks negatively in pointing blame on the carrier for reasons such as the above or worse, begins to make up random info, they'll get walked out....literally.

Bottom line - You got tossed aside by your carrier, IF the rep did in fact state that. I see this every single day but i also come in contact with exceptional carrier techs. It upsets me when customers get pushback, as I've gotten loads of pushback by my carriers, other companies, etc through the years and I've fallen for it myself, which made me look like the fool and took way longer to get problems resolved than if I had pushed right back & calmly and simply stated I must speak with a tenured rep.

SIM cards are carrier related. Apple never touches them. Think about it.

No logic to what is in your statement.

A broken SIM tray? If so, even if you lie to Apple and state you did nothing to crack the tray, etc (which people do regularly with parts they damage, as we all know), they will still set up a repair for you vs blaming you.

You got played....no way I'd tolerate it and I don't now. I know who does what, I base my info on credible sources not by listening to negative info or miscellaneous info found via Google on the net, and I reach out until I get professional, knowledgeable assistance and/or counsel. If a business or a rep within refuses to assist me, or they are incapable of supporting me or don't feel a need to, I move on. I don't complain. I take my own steps that only I can control, including moving on to another product or company if it gets to that point. Issue resolved.

Handle it!

It's not a hardware issue. If it were, you wouldn't have been given the option to purchase a replacement.

I recall that not long ago and for some time, Verizon and Sprint, could not support certain models of iPhone 7's and 7 plus's due to incompatibility. Eventually, Verizon did an update that supported those models and issued new SIM cards which allowed customers, who bought these models from Verizon, to have their cellular service return to them. In the meantime, customers either had to cope or go to another provider for service.

Sprint took a different route. They were very proactive with this and would immediately notify customers interested in those models, that they could not provide service for them and currently did not support those particular models. In turn, they didn't carry these models of iphone 7's as it would be unethical to sell someone an item you couldn't provide full and stable service for, or any service at all. They simply lacked compatible carrier settings with those model phones and vice-versa by Apple.

They lost some sales, but not really....they gained the trust of many who took note of their very clear, black & white, professional stance on this, which helped them gain a different type of customer who comprehended the simple facts by Sprint and Apple that aligned. Neither placed fault, as no one truly was at fault- some things just don't function together. Common sense. They both simply let potential customers know the two were not compatible together, along with offering other options, such as another carrier, product line, device, etc that could offer the customer full service on a compatible device.

Official documentation was on Sprint's site and Apple's site for the public. It also educated buyers of second hand devices, that if they had Sprint as their carrier, to not buy those specific models, and if they had one of those phone models, Sprint was not an option as a carrier.

Apple included info for Verizon too in their documents for anyone to view and be informed, and I feel sure Verizon offered this info openly to inquiring customers.

That's how professionalism works :)

Take care ~

I already replaced my daughter’s iPhone 7 the first week of January. Now this week my son’s is doing the same exact thing. I hate Samsung, but I think it ‘s time to change. I am not going to spend almost $6,000 every 2 years on 4 iPhones to experience this problem that should NOT be happening. I already spent $1,400 on a new iPhone X and Apple plan 3 weeks ago. Now I have to spend another $1,400? I don’t think so! Is it a trend that my other 2 phones will have the same issues. Yes! It’s a Apple issue! It’s not a provider issue. Several of my neighbors has same issues. So far the same issues happens to Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and also T-mobile! So how is it not a Apple issue. I have been owning Apple phones and tablets for almost 10 years. I order all the 100 iPhones for work every year and we are having problems with several of those as well. If Apple can’t step up and address the issue by doing some sort of free fix, then it’s time to replace all company iPhones to Samsung phones. So that I don’t have to buy new phones. Trade the iPhones to not pay full price for Samsung’s. I am not going to spend another $80,000-$120,000 to replace a product that went bad because of Apple incompetence. This is ridiculous!

The same thing happened to me. I have to replace my son's Iphone 6 because of their update. I went into the store and troubleshot with them over the phone and they refused to honor exchanging the phone. They stated it had a dent (a very tiny dent, which it had for years already working just fine up until the update mind you) and therefore not their responsibility. It's outrageous that they would not own up to this. I work very hard to be able to afford this for my child and I now have nothing to show for it. It's very sad that they would mess with people's hard earned money and sacrifices this way. I don't have another 800-1k dollars for a phone. They need to be held accountable.

I’m now dealing with our second iphone 7 doing this. First phone started doing the no service/searching, end of November. We did EVERYTHING. Finally took it to Apple & since it was under warrant, they gave us a new one. Now the new one is doing it & of course we’re not under warranty. I’m so frustrated & sick of dealing with Appl. They can’t give me any answers. This phone is in perfect condition & I don’t think I should have to pay for another one. This is my sons phone & it’s how I find him/get in touch with him when he’s not with me. Very disappointed

I hope this is true too. After my last post here, an Apple representative contacted and asked more detailed questions on behalf of the engineering team. I surely would be very happy to see that my posts and my phone conversation with that very nice representative was not a waste of time and saved other people’s time and money, if this is true. The question that still remains is what about people such as myself who already paid real money to change their phones? I tried hard to convince the Apple’s Genius Bar technician that the problem was induced by Apple and I should not be the one who pays for it, but who listened!?

Resetting the phone will not resolve the issue. Verizon said there is no fix and charged us $700 for a new phone and forced us to mail in the old phone or pay them $200. Who protects the consumer Apple will not provide a resolution and your cellar provider will just take advantage of you.

Contacted Apple due to the fact Verizon took the old phone and and I did not purchase the phone from Apple directly they will not provide a resolution. Once again the consumer is OUT.

That is true, verizon tried to help us too since the phone was of warranty. But the plan was buy other phone or update the phone, I was. I didnt damage the phone, it looks like new whatever happen is because Apple update; paying like 900 per the phone, paying phone bill for it because only works with WiFi? Missing a lot of stuff and nothing get fix, Apple is trying me to contac me, I told them when now I keep waiting. My phone is like this since Christmas sometimes signal is on but 98% off the time it is gone

Feb 8, 2018 5:17 AM in response to rmikowski

they deleted my post as well

thats so unprofessional.. is you don't know how to fix this problem then you are the worst customer service..instead of facing the problem and trying to fix it.. you guys just hide by deleting post!!!!!! i need someone from apple to reply or i will do other actions.. by the way i screenshot everything before you delete it so you better reply...

my iPhone 6 has no service after updating to iOS 11.2 ..went to apple told me its a hardware problem which obviously is not ..its a stupid software problem and told me to pay about 3200 Kronas to change it.. apple now want us to change by force instead of fixing their stupid problem!!!!!

want a solution
