No service after iOS 11 update

iPhone 6 Plus getting searching or no service. I can make phone calls/iMessage while on WiFi. I’ve tried these steps:

1. Turn on/off, hard shut off as well.

2. Turn on/off airplane mode, cellular, LTE, roaming.

3. Reset network settings.

4. Reset all settings. (Worked for a day only).

5. Update to 11.1 iOS and 30.1 carrier update.

6. Check time and date settings.

7. Took out SIM card.

8. Took off case.

9. No water damages.

10. Restore (Worked for a day).

Looked at multiple sites and so far it still says searching. AT&T account is good. I have 5 iPhones on my account and they have not updated and they still work. (iPhone 5s, 6, 6, 7, 7). Trying to avoid going to the Apple store as I know they will probably throw a $320 charge as I’m out of warranty. Any tips is welcomed!

This is my experienced SOLUTION for the intermittent and consistent "No Service or Searching" and Cellular Data/Cellular Network connectivity issue on one of my company’s mobile device. Problem was not a device software/hardware issue, which is especially demonstrated for those who have a new device or have performed a full device reset. Apologies in advance for the lengthy reply and hope this steers you as well as others towards a permanent resolution.

Device Information was incorrectly logged in the wireless carrier's system.

Step 1 - Accurately confirm your Device Information. First, go to Settings>Phone to view My Number (phone number). Second, go to Settings>General>About to view the device's Serial #, IMEI, ICCID, etc. IMEI=International Mobile Equipment Identity and this 15-digit serial # differs from the manufacturer’s serial #. ICCID=Integrated Circuit Card Identifier and this 20-digit # directly references the SIM card that's physically installed in device’s external port.

Step 2 - Contact your wireless carrier and ask them to verify that pertinent device info is respectively aligned. Just an FYI, a carrier’s system may demonstrate info correctly, but a refresh of info may be required in their system so that correct functionality is stimulated. ASK THEM TO CLEAR OUT ALL OF THEIR LOGGED FIELDS FOR DEVICE INFO AND RE-ENTER THE INFO. They should also ask you to power down your device during this process. Begin with the basic info assigned in their system, such as phone number and iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6S, 7, 8, X. Next, confirm the serialized type info. ICCID is critical. Be prepared to replace the carrier’s provided SIM card should the ICCID not match their system. Once device is powered up and is functioning correctly through cellular service ONLY, it’s also a good time to ensure that the Visual Voicemail is functioning. You or they, using another phone, can leave a test voicemail.

***Resolution steps above makes assumptions of mobile device general readiness.***

Refer to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201415. I’m sure I’ve missed some, but a few examples of readiness are as follows:

Device isn’t damaged.

Device appropriate SIM card is correctly installed.

Device cellular is turned on and cellular settings within device are correctly configured.

Device software is updated to iOS 8 or later version.

Device is manufactured specifically for and/or approved for use through wireless carrier.

Within wireless carrier service area and no cellular outages.

Wireless carrier account is in good standing/active and there isn't service type block referencing your device's IMEI. Blocks/blacklisting logged by wireless carrier can be from device reported as lost or stolen.

Carrier Settings update has been installed on device. If cellular or Wi-Fi service is available when checking Carrier version installed, you’ll see a pop up window for a Carrier Settings Update Available. Go to Settings>General>About and wait a few moments. Apply this update whenever it’s available.

Cheers & Good Luck!

i just wanted to offer my empathy as i am stuck in the same situation with the exception of an iphone 7. Contacted both parties (i have sprint) over 8 times and there is apparently no resolution. i didn't drop my phone or such. Problems started happening after 11.1 and i am so angry. My iphone also dosen't throw a "No Sim" warning when there is actually no sim, instead just keeps searching or says no service. This leads me to believe its software and i guess ill just wait for an update becasue i'm not buying another $800 f****** paper weight.

Restored iphone twice(worked for 8 hours)

Reset network connection

New Sim

Refreshed tower

everything else you and i have seen online.

FIX THIS B.S APPLE

Nope...still have to hard-reset every time it happens. It is odd that touch-ID also doesn't work every time this happens, and insists on entering the lock-code...even though the normal/expected lock-code triggers have not been triggered.

I did notice that the battery thing (charging stops) seems to be happening every time I connect the smart connector to the Create keyboard while the iPad is charging. I'd say that might be a Logitech issue, and needing a FW update for the Create keyboard for the iPad Pro 12.9 and iOS 11. I don't have much hope to see one. Logitech is like many other ODM (cheap) manufacturers...there is probably about Zero resource budget allocated for product family lifecycle management...it is little better than "Ship it and Forget it". Belkin, Logitech, etc, they are mostly all the same. It seems that once they've moved on to the "next big thing", you can forget about seeing any kind of support updates, and prior Revisions & products are abandoned at an alarming rate. I can tell you from first hand experience, most Asian ODMs (where the stuff is manufactured) do not seem to grasp the importance of the product family lifecycle management paradigm...(i.e., Demming product improvement processes). Also, typically their teams change personnel so often, they do not have the benefit/value of team experience to manage product lifecycle. Team members are "plug & play", with no value placed on keeping good individuals in place. (I once had an ODM replace my product's team leader and almost the entire team 3x in a 10 month interval! Hard to even bring a viable product to market under those circumstances.) Which is why Revision C devices very often have the exact same bugs that were already fixed in Revision A. It is a huge issue that nobody wants to talk about or address.

The reason we expect better from Apple is because Steve always drove this point of QA in regard to product family lifecycle management, and they (Apple) also did/does all the software directly themselves. Apple uses the "Contract Manufacturer" model with the Asian Manufacturers. The others use the "ODM" model...under "ODM" they merely DIRECT the Asian ODM to DEVELOP and Manufacture...so the SW Engineering is all done at the ODM as well.

(Also IMHO, we get annoyed because we expect more, because we PAY more for Apple products than we do for ODM stuff.) It is still better at Apple than others, just not as good as it was when Steve was still alive...

iPhone 7, running on 11.2.1, tried everything from toggling airplane mode, removal of SIM, replacing SIM card, network reset, factory reset (twice).

The removal of SIM, new SIM, and factory reset have worked only ~1 hour, then the phone is back to searching/no service.

Anyone else still having issues or a possible resolution? I see a user that is a few threads above me had success, I replied and am pending an answer hopefully.

Any further insight or knowledge is appreciated. Thank you.

I’ve been going thru all of this since mid-December with Verizon! First I had iPhone 7, that wasn’t even a year old yet. I jumped thru all the hoops with the resets, set up as new iPhone, new sims & all that good stuff - Verizon sent me a refurbished iPhone 7 to replace it, they decided it was the phone. Here we go, round 2: did it all over again, low & behold, same crap! Just received a brand new iPhone 8, Verizon contacted their Apple rep, said it was a problem with the 7’s they where having. All I did was activate the phone today, still same problems! I can’t make or receive calls, sometimes it won’t hook to wi-fi, I don’t get any service! I have 2 other cell phones & 2 iPads in my house that are working just fine on Verizon network. It’s just my number, not one person in the last month can figure this out! There is nothing on this new iPhone 8, straight out of the box and activated by Verizon with my number, no apps, no photo, no music!

I see a minimum of 5 threads on Apple's forums on this issue, but no resolutions yet.

So just to be clear, I am still having the No Service/searching issue.

I've contacted my carrier (Sprint) and have updated my prl numerous times

they've "Refreshed my device from my account" (whatever that means) numerous times

I've reset my network settings mult times

I've reset my entire phone twice and set it up as a new phone before restoring it from backup.

I've tried removing my sim and resetting it.

Apple is turfing this to the carrier (tho it looks like all carriers are seeing similar issues to some degree).

My husband on the same model phone, same ios (now 11.2.2) has none of these issues. When we are in the car together, his phone shows steady signal with only the difference of a bar or two. Mine does not lock on to a signal. I see Sprint 1x, then lte, then 3g, then no service, rinse and repeat.

Sounds like many here have the same issues.

Any resolution to this yet?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear this.

Regarding Sprint, I've heard nothing. It's the only one I've not heard much on nor worked with. Ironically, many Sprint stores are also AASP's so you'd think they'd really be ahead of everyone on this issue, since they can not only look into the carrier side, but also look into the device as well to assist more effectively. So, it has me curious now as to what could be going on here.

As always, if I do hear of any possible solutions or fixes with this carrier in conjunction with the iPhones, I'll certainly forward over asap.

Take care ~

Appreciate that. I dispute that Apple did not cause this, though. If you look at any of the threads on the different mobile provider's sites (I've seen this on Verizon, T-Mobile, ATT, Sprint), they all state that this issue started with 11.x--that seems like a smoking gun to me. Additionally, unlike Android, Apple is responsible for both hard and software. Ostensibly, the reason for that is to maintain tighter control. I'm ok with that, and most of the time it works great.

At this point, I'm being told to take my device to a Sprint store. Not so easy since the closest one is a 2+hour drive from me. And, since whatever happened, happened OTA, the fix should be able to be diagnosed and applied OTA as well. Driving 2 hours one way with no reliable mobile signal is really not an option for me, so now I need to coordinate with someone who does have signal. When you take in to account the hours I have spent on this so far (and I've spent two solid days trying to get this corrected, + misc time here and there for updates like this) I'm thinking that Apple needs to start reimbursing me for my time and effort spent trying to troubleshoot this.
