Beats x not working for calls on iPhone X

Has anyone else experienced the problem where the Beats x headphones work for everything apart from calls?

On the call I am selecting Beats X as the audio device but no sound is coming through and the mic isn't working, so I have to fall-back to the traditional - hold the phone.

This is an intermittent issue and so far I have resolved it by rebooting the phone and re-pairing the Beats X but this is time consuming and unsatisfactory for two products from the same stable (Apple Inc).

Beats X, iOS 11.0.3

I've found out what's causing the issue with my Beats X / iPhone 7 Plus. iPhone is on 11.3 - All audio except calls/voicemail is absolutely fine. I have this issue with both my Beats X and Bose QC35 II's. After unpairing/pairing, resetting network settings, resetting the entire iPhone, the only solution that has worked for me is either switching my Apple Watch off or putting it into airplane mode, as soon as I've done this the headphones issue on calls goes away. My watch is on 4.3 as I just updated that today, but the issue was there before this update and it's still there now. Interested to know if anyone has tried this and had the same result. I now find myself in the position of having to choose either the watch or the headphones and the headphones win as I wear my Beats X most of the day, mainly for calls.

I had this issue for incoming calls but found why the issue was happening.

On an incoming call with the headphones connected, I noticed the audio button changing to iPhone (on the Phone screen where mute, keypad, audio, add call etc are located). If I press the audio button (top right), I can select iPhone, Speaker or Beats X. If I don't select Beats X I cannot hear them and they cannot hear me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for this Mark. I reset all settings and the Beats X started taking calls reliably again.

**Then I swapped SIM cards to test something for a client (don't ask), and the problem came back.**

So, reset the settings again last night, and it's fixed again.

It's annoying how many settings are lost when you do that reset, but I'm happy to be able to answer calls as expected.

Hey there, Wick,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that your BeatsX earphones intermittently do not work on calls; neither you nor the person you're speaking with can hear the other. I'm happy to help!

I see in your post that you've tried restarting the iPhone and repairing the BeatsX with the phone. Since those steps have not helped, I would recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly for additional assistance. You can do that here: Contact Apple Support .

Cheers!

I have the exact same problem with my iPhone X and Beats X. The headphones sometimes simply refuse to connect to calls and the other person on the line can usually hear themselves talking (very loudly and echoey) but I can hear nothing. What solves it - most of the time, not always - is to re-pair - but that seems crazy for two Apple products to need that every time I want to make a call.

Just to rule a hardware problem - I have no problems using my Beats X with either my (work-provided) iPhone 6S Plus or my old iPhone 6S.

Talk about the uber suck. I think the issue started with iOS11 - I've got a 7 plus. The upgrade to 11.1 sort of helped. But then 11.1.2 and then now 11.2 have totally blown away any BeatsX earbuds functionality with the phone application. Audio, microphone, etc - none of it works. All of the other apps work, but not the phone.

When looking at "audio" on the phone control screen when in the midst of a phone call, Beats X is listed as an audio option, but when I select Beat X, the phone swings back immediately to either speaker or phone. It refuses to work with Beats X.

This is pretty ludicrous. I am peeved to the max. I adore my Beats x. I spend a good part of my work life on conference calls and the Beats are terrific. And Beats are an Apple product!

But now, I can't use them at all. I've tried everything on this thread - including the somewhat drastic reset settings. Still doesn't work.

I don't blame Beats for this one. It's clearly an Apple phone app issue. And I'm not sure what to do here.

I'm not sure how Apple is testing the phone app, but clearly the test suite is not thorough.

Apple - please help. Any suggestions?

Incredibly, I had the same result. Thanks for the insight. Putting my Apple watch into airplane mode--which, by the way, irritatingly, also puts your iPhone into airplane mode unless there is a setting to avoid this (will look for it)--permits the audio on calls, both ways, as well as Siri to work with the internal mic. Trust there is a software fix for this one. Jeez, who would have thought?

I have the same problem — 70% of the time there’s no audio on phone calls with the iPhone X & Beats X.

Just went to the Genius Bar and they don’t care. They want to erase my phone and setup from scratch. Data loss or wired headset for phone calls... I’ll stick to the wired headset.

Sad that Apple support has sunk so low, sadder still that they’re not QAing their products with each other.
