Pardon me I’m not great with computers, but does having more apps open use up more iPhone CPU/processing? i.e. is it using more ram? That’s the main reason I usually close them all. It makes sense after all that the more apps that are open, the harder the phone has to work to keep them open in their state...

No, this is a common misunderstanding and fallacy. Apps in the background are not "running" and taking up resources, when closed an app hibernates and iOS manages the system memory and CPU load as needed.

Killing apps does nothing at all except use up your time and your iPhone's battery (starting an app from scratch typically requires more energy than resurrecting a sleeping app). As stated above, the only reason to kill an app is if it is causing you a problem while using it.

How about this....we need a way to close ALL apps because those apps "not doing anything in the background" still may contain PII information clearly exposed. Read the GDPR EU requirement and see if its ok to "just run in the background". Trust me, Apple WILL fix this very cumbersome extra step simply because the EU will make them.

Is there something in the law that prevents you from having your personal information visible on your phone? Wow!

Put a passcode on your phone. No one will see anything.

Right, noone ever looses their phone. Great point.

If your phone has a passcode on it, all the data on it is encrypted. Unless you have the passcode on a sticker on the back of the phone, the data is still secure. And, if you have Find My iPhone enabled and the phone is connected to a network, you can remotely erase it if you don't believe you'll get it back.

Lets get back to the initial point, iPhone X navigation. The "improved" navigation has considerable irritations for Android converts like myself. The "facial recognition" is an irritant compared to a thumb (Android has both), the lack of close all apps is clunky (Android has this), the removal of Home button with "swoosh up" ends up with lock ups that force pressing the Siri button, double click the Siri button to install an app (ridiculous experience), and for screenshots just press the right and left buttons at the same time (largely a two handed operation). I'm not naive enough to think my complaints will change anything or that Apple will stop "improving" navigation. I am naive enough to hope the scare of regulation might be enough of a "facade" to scare them enough to simply give us what we want, to close all the apps with one simple movement so iOS can be "just like Android".

Good idea.

The technical answer to the initial point is no. At present, you can't close all apps on an iPhone X with a single gesture.

All other discussion about what should be is moot.

We can only deal here with what is.
